count o' the almost total failure of
grass and the high price of feed stuff's
in this section over 1000 head of
horses and milch cows have been kill
ed in San Antonio during the past 150
days to prevent them from dying of
starvation. There has been a drout
in this sectson for 12 months or nion
and there is no prospect for an im
provement. Senator Clark, of Montana, is said
to be the richest man in the world
His Arizona mines, "The Great Verde'
is probably the greatest the world has
ever seen. He is reported to have al
ready refused if 500,000,000 for it and
well he may, for experts estimate that
there are 23,000,000 tons of ore in
sight, and that if properly worked the
mine will yield annually $180,000,000.

In matter of W S Adams' road, a
claim of damages being filed, matter
continued, viewers appointed to assess
damages.
In matter of Edward Mason road,
report favorable and road ordered
opened.
Thos. Lathvop resigned road super
visor of Dist No 2, and E. W. South
wick appointed.
Thos. Lathrop was appointed road
master of Wallowa county for one
y.'ar, salary $720, bond if 2000.
A C Simth road, defeated on re
monstrance. In matter of adjusting peddler's
licence in Wallowa county. Peddlers
on foot or bicycle shall be charged
$26 per year; two peddlers using one
or two horses $52 per year.
Damages on J. W. Emmons road.
Viewers having to report. G. II.
Lightle, C. J. Yager and J. J. Berner
were appointed to meet i'eb. 1, 1902
and make report as to amount of
damages caused by said road.
