and there is no prospect for an im
provement. Senator Clark, of Montana, is said
to be the richest man in the world
His Arizona mines, "The Great Verde'
is probably the greatest the world has
ever seen. He is reported to have al
ready refused if 500,000,000 for it and
well he may, for experts estimate that
there are 23,000,000 tons of ore in
sight, and that if properly worked the
mine will yield annually $180,000,000.

wick appointed.
Thos. Lathrop was appointed road
master of Wallowa county for one

A C Simth road, defeated on re
monstrance. In matter of adjusting peddler's
licence in Wallowa county. Peddlers
on foot or bicycle shall be charged
$26 per year; two peddlers using one
or two horses $52 per year.
