OREGON STA rELIBRJ- Fnday, December 17, 1943. ASTP Students Now Serving Everywhere Meet SCU Non Coms Pin-Up Girl Graduates to Number 10,000 Monthly Soon ------ * (» ”1 must tell him all about mine." Welcome Mats Dusted Off for JSO Christmas Parties Christmas parties are on the fire at all nearby USOs this ek, and they promise to be fun for GIs attending ... In ler words, they’re going all out for a Merry Christmas for To date nearly 2,000 men have been graduated from ASTP units and have been assigned to respon sible duties in nearly all the arms and services. By spring of 1944, the rate of graduates will exceed 10,000 a month. Although the ASTP is not to be regarded as a sure road to a com mission since ASTP graduates must compete with all other enlisted men for selection to fill the limited quotas in the OCS, the trainees’ chances for advancement are en hanced by successful completion of the ASTP courses, with officer training a possibility. Many have been sent on to offi cer training schools and others have already been given overseas assign ments of such strategic importance that military security forbids de scribing them. The primary aim of the program is to train soldiers for the highest duties they are capable of perform ing in specialized fields where the Army has greatest needs. The peak of the ASTP trainee allotment has already been reached and the future quotas of entering classes will be determined by the outflow of graduates and losses due to attrition. Only soldiers with the highest qualifications can be selected for admission. SijrnHl Corp# rhotn THE DELIGHTFUL MISS in the arms of that funny old man is none other than Barbara Anne Brown, three-vear-old daughter of Mrs. Louise Brown, who works at the Post Laundry, Barbara was unanimously acclaimed last week as Pin-Up Girl for the SCU 1911 Non Coms Club. Although she is here in the arms of none other than Sgt. Fred (Banks of the Wabash) Thornton, club president, the sly wink of this coy miss is enough to let any body know that she would just as soon get away from it all.
