Vol. 2, No. 25. Camp Adair, Oregon, Friday, October 8. 1943. $1.50 a Year by Mail Best All-Around Howitzer Squad in Battalion Our Camp Commander's Message To you—Officers and Men of SCU No. 1911—your new Commanding Officer desires to express his confi dence and desires. It is not an easy task to step into a position which was so ably filled by your former com mander, Colonel McCoy. Your new commander ha< confidence in your z.biiities. and feels that wi’h your assistance t be efficiency and general reputation of this Camp will continue to grow . cers and men be ever on the alert to improve their efficiencv and to increase the quantity and quality y z - Wp j/ y divisions. To accomplish this, we must have coni- pletc cooperation and a willingness to put aside ¿dMKb self-interest for those things which promote I ¿¡Sr * X * " the whole. Be meticulous in small things, as well as in major endeavors. Such things as discipline, uniforms, care of person, etc., are all important—not only when on this post but when off the post and in civilian communities. A man well trained to be painstaking in small and seemingly unimportant things is almost always just as careful in the larger and vital operations . The spirit of cooperation between individuals, divisions, sections, and training units is vital and necessary for the promotion of the war. The same is true between enlisted men and their officers. Both officers and enlisted men must feel that the Post Commander is their commander; that their in terests are his interests, and fed free to discuss with him not* only official matters but other vital matters necessary to further the efficiency of the command. This Service Unit is established for the purpose of promoting the training of ground force units by reliev- • ing them of those things which detract their time and efforts from training. A successfully trained and Equipped division is a credit to the Service Command upon which they are dependent. From all reports received, the record of this Serv ice Command Unit is very good. It is the aim of your new commander to see that this is bettered if possible, and with your cooperation there is little doubt but that combat units trained at Camp Adair will look back and give thanks to you Officers and Men for your efforts. It is in this manner that many of you will have to be content to strike the enemy. To the civilians employed upon this post, the Com manding Officer desires to impress you with the feel ing that yours is not just an ordinary job. You are to all intents and purposes a part of the armed services, and you are doing your part to strike at our enemies. • Perform your duties with this in mind, and we will make C^mp Adair felt on those fronts where our ground fo -ces are engaged.
