Power Into Orders
When you hear a loud, distinct
voice floating up in back of you,
pr seeming to come from over
head, it will not be Japs, a fire-
alarm, or anything of that kind—
just the new public address sys
tem which R. M. Robson has had
installed in his car so that he can
call a man or men a block or so
away, issue necessary instructions
and in other ways save time, tires
and confusion. Nice idea. Bob. Men,
let’s pay attention to this voice.
We are all anxious to cut out any
lost motion.

Seen stressed the need for not only
a USO building in the city but
the necessity of opening every
available recreation center, club or
church to take care of the soldiers.
Knowledge gained by Miss Seen,
when she attended a national re
creation convention in the east last
fall, suggested to her the impor-
tance of full preparation for a
recreational program in army can
tonment areas.
Based on figures obtained from
other cantonment centers, Corvallis
and the surrounding cities can
regularly expect about 15 per cent
of the soldiers to be on leave. This
figure, however, may be more or
even less, depending on the offi
cials in charge of the camp.
Those attending the institute
took away with them a knowledge
of how to conduct a score of the
popular games, party ideas and
recreations directing. One session
was spent with songs and leading
group singing. Prof. Dan Poling,
assistant dean of men at OSC,
directed this session.
It is the plan, according to Miss
Seen, to give a series of follow-up
sessions for this group next fall
and winter. In this way the re
creational leaders will be given
additional assistance to meet their
problems after they have conduct
ed a series of programs of their
own.
Corvallis Soft Ball
League Opens June 1

Camp Adair Clubs to
Be Listed in Lineups

The opening night of the Cor
vallis softball league has been
changed from May 25 to June 1,
due to continued cold weather, lack
of practice of the teams entered,
and general inability to get the
league organized and going. This
was reported after a general meet
ing of the softball group last night.
Art De Temple, manager of the
U. S. engineer team reports his
team is ready to go but needs a
week of practice.
Earl H e c k a r t, representing
Smith, Hoffman and Wright, Camp
Adair contractors, announces his
team is ready, with some fast play
ers available.
There are numerous practice
games being played on the lower
college campus and high school field
every night that the turf is dry, and
players are ironing out the winter
kinks.
The league has a place for an
official scorer and loud speaker an
nouncer, this being a combination
job with pay.
I Our previous call for softball
registrations did not exactly fall
on deaf ears. We were unable to
proceed further with the recruit
ing “due to circumstances beyond
our control.” (How do you like
that?
We learned it from the
censors.) Anyway, come in to the

been a resident for many years.
He will also be recalled by many
