The member of Ihe school literary soci
ety will give a musical and literary enter
tainment under the survision of their
teacher Prof. T. J. Garv, at the school
house Saturday evening, March llth. The
programme will consist of recitations, mu
sic, dialogues, and shadow pantomimes.
The proceeds are to be used for the purchase
of book for a school library.

The Farmers' league ot Beaver Creek is
no i.iore because they could not get anyone
to act as seeretarv. So we arc told.
Some of the boys went to visit old Gross-
niillcr last Sunday, nnd the way thev acted
they must have had a royal time, for the
sixty foot road was not wide enough, and
the way they were trying to heave up Jo
nnh lieuts the whale to nix. The man who
gave them the cider and wine is a church
member, and a devout Christian loo. Take
note, ye sinners.
There are a great many sick horses in
this neighborhood at present, and unite a
numlsr have died with what they cull the
staggers, and all the quacks who can tell you
how to prevent and cure it have sick horses
if their own. If some one could tell the
cause and irive a sure cure he w ould Ik' do
ing an act of kindness that would he very
thankfully received by a great many poor
farmers who are losing horses every winter.
We hope some one will answer who has
made experiments on bis own horses, ascx
periments generally couio high.
Welsh and Martin have bought another

have enough to run their saw mill full blast
for three or four years.

General, asking that our mail facilities he
increased to throo times per week. It is
needless to sny we got it.
At the recent school meeting T. C. Juhb
was elected director, and C. 0. Stone re
elected clerk. A special meeting is called
for the purpose of voting a tax to condiic
a nine months school, All should give it
their hearty support. The school house is
to be painted, nnd Mr. Juhb is to superin
tend the job, which means first class work.
Viola is situated on Clear Creek, twelve
miles east of Oregon City, and twenty-t hree

The social event of the season was the
party given nt the residence of J. W. Roats
in honor of his daughter Hattie's eighteenth
birthday. The order of the evening was

Last week there was a concert and dance
at Minig's hall. All seemed to have a jolly

The snow is fast disappearing and the
slock men will shed no tears because it will
bring no (cars to Iheir shivering steers.
It looks like there is,n prospect for a road
across the Lit tie Sandy if the county court
responds to the prayers of the petitioners.
To build up and settle npacountry we must
have roads. It will give a chance for a few
new settlers. The opening up of the new
road from Back Bone to Pleasant Home is
well under way. It will save several miles
to Portland by n great deal better road.
Mrs. Daniel Pnrkeishns departed from
t his world of toll and care to the beautiful
shores of the starry heavens, leaving seven
little ones to mourn her loss. We hope her
gentle and sweet whispers from her heav
enly home w ill mi-cvcr drown their grief
witli joy.
Mr. AsholV is building a tino cottage,
which makes some of our old time homes
look out of fashion.
