For Week Emlliiff Mnlurday June 7.
Th forepart of tho wok wi
cool and cloudy, with rain, hail and
mow in the mountains. The rain
fall wan poorly distributed, and
thoro was not tho Unnflt derived
from it that was exjoct;d. The
latter part of tho week was cloud
less, dry and warm, on Friday and
Saturday, tho temperature was
above W degrees in many sections
of the state. More rain is neudwd.
Rain and cool , weather will yt
produce good crops. Delayed re
ports from Eastern Oregon show
that on May 28, 29 and 30, frosts
occurred that did damage to veget
ables, especially potatoes, tomatoes
ana pcau. Corn, rye ftfiu barley
were also Injured.
The month of May had a high
average temperature, and the rain
fall was very light, as a result, the
crop prospects are not so encoura
ging an might lo desired, especially
hay ami late sown grain. Tho
fruit prospects are good. Straw
U'rrioH are very plentiful. Cher
ries are rij and the trees are load
ed with them. General reports in
dicate a light hay crop. Crops in
Tillamook county are all promising.
Throughout the Willamette valley
rain is badly needed. Wheat field
are burnt in places. Much of the
spring sown grain did not come up.
In the Umpqua and Rogue river
valleys, the prospects arc brighter.
Tho coast counties are especially
promising for good crops. The
(irando Rondo and Walla Walla
valleys and a greater portion of
Umatilla county as well as the ma
jor portion of Union county, have
tho best prospects for crops in
eastern Oregon. In the valleys of
Wallowa county, wheat, oats, bar
ley and rye are doing very well.
Wasco, Sherman and sections of
Gilliam county appear to lie the
worst affected by the dry weather.
