At the head of these columns we present the ticket delected by the delegate to The republican county convention. That it i a good and acceptable ticket, i acknowledge by nearly all. It was chosen by a large deliberation body of repre scutative republican, and although different opinion were held as to whom it was .-est to nominate, there was hardly a clash in the convention, which broke up with evident good feeling on all sides The ticket is one that should command the respect and support of republican, for it is composed of representative republicans who will stand souarelv and uncoin promisingly on the principle. These nominees are the standard bearers of the party, and as the col or bearer i rallied arouud and pro tected on the field oi battle, so should republicans everywhere, not regarding personal wishes or any petty spite, rally to the unanimous support of the ticket. It is not the proper province of repu blicans to fire at the selected standard bearers of Uncrown party. The en emy may be dep,nd 'd upon to do that, and before saying au ght against any name on this ticket .ul.la M ..l .1 .1., wll to UN sider result. It should be the de termination of republican to pre sent a solid front to the opposition, thereby insuring victory at the polls. We may all tho better do this a we have a good ticket to vote. Political parties have their dis tinctive and legitimate use. I5y unity of effort several or many in dividuals can accomplish what one or a few could not do alone. A par ty is composed of those who hold views in common to a greater or less extent, and no individual can hoe to find all bis principles or opinions framed in the political platform of the party to which he belongs. But tho individual should find in the party to which he pled ges his allegiance, a kindred sen timent relative to the fundamental principles underlying good govern ment. Upon methods, details or minor questions there cannot help being a variance a there is in all matters, whether business, social or political. The duty of the in dividual then is to work with and for his party as expressed by the will of the majority, for after all it is the fundamental principles for wKch we are fighting and, no one can afford to abandon these for spite, personal dislike, or because his ideas have not been adopted in entirety by the party. Republi cans favor equal rights under the constitution, equal and untrain mcled suffrage followed by an hon est count and correct return, equal and just taxation in all department of government, efficient public ser vice, wise expenditures for public improvements, protection to both American labor and capital and adequate pensions to relievo the men who rallied to the support of the flag when help was needed Let these prihciples tower above the men who have been named to administer office, for republicans only can be expected to enactor enforce republican principles. Bei.ievi.no in rewarding efficient services by a renominating the re publican party again presents for the suffrages of the voters the names of several tried and trusty officers who by well doing havo earned the esteem and supportofthe pirty. II. ir. Johnson, J.W. S. No blc, W. W. II. 8amson, 8. Jl. Califf Cornelius liair and Alex. Thomson have been renominated, three by acclamation and all by good votes, S. W Mcldrum has been promoted from tmrveyor to judge. Tlum tin' bulk of the tioket consist of men whom the voters know to he worthy One other, V. T. WliitWk vm kmi, tried In tho elerkV oll.eo and every otto know that ho i nhund- ftntly enimhlo to till tho oltioe, n he already familiar with the reo onlrt in every department. Tiik pressing invitation of the democrats to republican ceni not to have Wen very enticing a but 15 democrats all told attended the . primary in the city last I hursduy. What's tho matter with the demo- . cratio rank and tile? Is it pos- ajble that they are tired of bos rule? L F. V. lrake trieil to bulld.ue tlie county court into taking up the; motor franchise matter again but the commissioner couldn't see it in that light. Having decided the case once .they saw no reason to listen to the demand of a mm resident. Thk republican convention was; harmonious throughout, and it was noticeable at it conclusion that there was an almost universal ex pression of satisfaction over the re sult. Kach mem- ler vied with all the others in eagerness to get his dollar on the table with clangor becoming the importance of the coin, and, as the sum of if(n.2' was raised in this way, it is clear that some delegate must have grown extravagant and added a quarter to bis sum, or Unit one "had not como prepared to meet the demand," and bad been forcod to beg olT with the payment of a quarter. However this might have been, the sums designated were raised and the "union party" of Oregon is in the field bravely challenging corruption and deter mined to bear aloft the flag of re form for all that there is in the pot. The platform, as beseems an ef fort to catch the votes of erratic per sons of various schools, takes a wide range. By the preamble . we learn tnat tho chief objects of gov ernment are to secure the rights of life, liberty and property, to citi zens, and that to rescue these ini- Jieriled rights from the evils of class legisletion is the mission of the "union party." Tho platform wanders through fourteen resolu tions in which various "demands" are formulated. Among other things tho government is required to beeonio possessor of, or supreme dictator in tho transportation buni-, ness of the country; the tariff sys tem must tie abolished; the liquor traffic must Iw prohibited; foreign ers must bo educuted before per mitted to vote (the convention was not hard on illiterate Americana); Htriko must be settled by the gov ernment, and eijuul pay forotial liilmr, regardless of mx, muni be insisted upon by the name timver; taxes must be levied upon inctaiie and not "upon farm, and eight bourn must be made to constitute a legal day' labor.
