Fireworks on Top of Mt. Hood July -till.
Ed. Enterprise : The public mind has
never been fully convinced regarding the
accuracy of the attitude and ascent of Mt.
Hood, for there are a great many persons
, who say that the summit ot Mt. Ho d
never has leeii reached and never will be,
and that those "parties" who say they have
j been on top are simply mistaken. On the
j other side those saitt " parries" state with
i eo.ua! emphasis that "Hood's hoary crest"
can be reached, and bring very convinc
! ing proofs that tliev have done so. Still
there are, many who s ill doubt, and to
remove their unbelief the following
SOVKL PLAN
has leen proposed, viz : On July 4th, at 9
A. M., to burn on the summit of Hood as
large a Itonfue as materials can Ik had for.
and send up sky-rockets, shoot Koman
candles, arH have it understood over the
State so that the different towns may be
on the lookout, and reiort. We assert
that the above
CAN BE DONE
on the authority of ohk of the previous
"arty," and the same reliable erson
states that it
WILL AH DONE.
Parties will make Summit Prairie their
place of meeting on July 2d. There
is a txood wa-'on roatl to i:, onlv CO miles
from Port land and 5-5 from t'ie JJalles. On
July 3 1 the lirst attempt will be made by
everyone who wants to, and if successful,
a grand display may be exacted July 4th.
JULY FOURTH
the tarty will ascend and take with them
combustibles, sky-rockets, teleseop s.and
all insti niueiits necessary for a-ain meas
uring the attitude, and a ftt-r leaving me
mentoes etc., return to base of mountain
to watch operations. Two (or more) men
will stay on top. liro les and M illcr, of
Tvgh valb-y, have volunteered to stay
and light I m mil re, an 1 see to sky-rockets,
Koman candles, etc. The time for the
illu inatioii will be
'9 o'clock p. m., JULY 4th.
The movers in this project start from Tygh
valley and intend to carry everything
through. A cordial invitation is extended
to all throughout the Slate to meet them
at Summit Pratrie July 2d. It will be a
camping tarty, and the necessary outfit
will be '
CAMPING UTENSILS,
consisting of axes, ropes, guns, fishing-
rods, plenty of blankets, and for tin
mountains, l'oots, with spikes in them,
compass, telescope, etc., and mementoes
to leave on the mountain for other parties.
There are many varieties ot flowers in the
moun'ains, unclassiiied. Cannot some one
who takes an interest in liotany be along?
in conclusion,

ROMEO ON THE WAR PATH.
Editor Enterprise : Romeo is still
courting under difficulties, lie called to
see his J uliet a short time since, supposing
that those No. 10s were not at home; but
what was his surprise when the door
opened and No. lijs exhibited his lofty
form to lis view. Romeo turned tore
treat as usual, followed by No. 10s, who
was in close pursuit, but our hero as be
fore, being too fleet for his pursuer, and
not having his big brother there to open
the gate for him, he scaled the fence and
was soon in the public road, v here some
rough language was made use of and then
the fun Itegan. No. 10s camo out of the
skirmish w ith a lame eve.aud Romeo now
mourns the loss of his ! all-faced shirt,
which he lost in the coin hat; but No. 10s
being a very generous hearted individual
ltrofrered to donate him two dollars and a
1 alf to buy him a new one, but Romeo
thought he could probably raise the neces
sary funds to purchase his own shirt and
cane without the aid of a subscription.
However, neither party was verv itadlv
demoralized, and the voting warrior de
parted, but not in peace with the whole
world, tor he was informed that his Juliet's
sweetness for him had turned to gall and
wormwood, and that the rose would prob
ably be garnered to adorn the heart of an
other, and there would be nothing left for
him but the thorns. The course of true
love never did run smooth. More anon.
