Editor. Enttkrpris6 Dear Sir: The
members of Fountain Hose Co. No. 1 ask
that the following proceedings be publish
ed, as a matter of news and information to
the City Fathers, and others that might be
interested:
The regular monthly meeting of Foun
tain Hose Co. No.l w as held at the hour of
7 oolock on Thursday evening, December
13. 1870.
President, XV. W. M vers, presiding.
Present. Messrs. Fuller, Nass, IShecliaii,
Levy, Selling, Kolls, S:hrani, Highritld, '
Geo. Willis ana Andj' Willis. i
The records of tlie last regular meeting i
were read and approved, as recorded. j
A communication from Prof. S. D. Pope ;
was read by the Secretary. Communica- j
tion ordered on tile. The'Prof. askel that '
the Secretary present tothe Fountain Hose I
Co. his irratetul annreciation of their manv !
kindnesses, and also heart-felt w ell-wishes
for their future prosperity, that he would
ever look back with piide to the members
w ho, under the most extreme dirlictilties,
guided "T. e Ship of State" as to come out
victorious in this, that thev kept the com
panj' at the head of the ranks, and showed
their vim on many occasions when prop
erty was the prey of the destroying ele
ment, tire.
The matter of exempt eeitificates was
introduced, by the exhibiting of a sample
one, sent from New York. Various mem
bers spoke of the design as not Iteitig the
kind desired bv the members. After var
ious remarks upon the matter, it was or
dered that the Secretary procure samples
of different designs, either from Portland,
San Francisco or New York, and that he
receive pay from the company for his ser
vices in procuring the same.
It was also ordered by the company that
the Secretary receive pay for his services
as secretary of the company; that he re
ceive the sum of one dollar for each regu
lar meeting, and fifty cents for each special
meeting.
A question arose among the members of
the company, that "Madame Rumor'had
it that the City Fathers had expressed un
easiness in regard to the Fire Department,
that they had been endeavoring to arouse
them to action. The coin pan v has this to
say in regard to inactivity : That thev are
in good spirits, and entertain no su liidea
as yielding up the ship. Yet, while they
may have cause to complain of certain
things, they lo not propose giving up the
command. Our motto, which can he seen
tv visiting our rooms, is, "We Never
Yield."
Tiie coin nan v numbers 23 members, 1m
Hg w ithin two of the limits of the law, all
in good standing, and active members,
who always respond to the call of the bell.
If the City Fathers think that we are not
alive and up to action, let them visit our
rooms on nights of meeting, and thev may
hear something of interest.
