At the last meeting of tho Official
Board of the M. E. Church of this citv,
it was ascertained that the finances of
the church were in quite a healthy
condition. Measures were adopted bv
which the balance due the Elder ami
Pastor, on salary, for the conference
year just closing has been paid in full.
The indebtedness of the church has
been reduced more than one half, and
a respectable sum has been secured in
aid of the lienevolent enterprises of the
church at large.
Thanks to all the contributors, not
only our own menilers, but the many
friends not connected with our church,
who have aided in reaching these re
sults, so gratifyingjto us.

Small-Pox at Milwaukie.-The
Portland papers tell of seven cases of
small-pox at Milwaukie, and that the
patients have not received the neces
sary medical attention. We are in
formed by reliable authority that there
are only rive cases all of a mild type;
that Dr. Xorris of this citv has been
attending the sufferers, and' that every
attention possihle under the circum
stances has leeti rendered by the neigh
bors. The disease is con lined to the
family of a Mr. (Jiay. The "sixty or
seventy iersonsexposed," have passed
over the time in which the disease
should have shown itself, and, as all
precautions are licing taken, there is
no reason for any further spread of the
contagion at that place.

A Harvest ot Health
Those who use Ilostetter's Stomach
Hitters as a means of invigoration and
protection against disease, invariably
reap an ample harvest of health. Di
gestion, excretion and secretion are
rendered regular and vigorous by this
ruling tonic and alterative, and the es
sentials of health being secured, that
blessing naturally follows. Nervous
diseases, intermittent and remittent
fevers, rheumatism, biliousness", and
kidney or bladder troubles are speedily
relieved by tho Hitters, which are as
potent in preventing these maladies as
in remedying them. And it may
almost be said that their power of pre
venting diseases is as strong a recom
niendation in their favor as their power
of curing them, especially in localities
where febrile complaints of an inter
mittent type prevail, and where the
ordinary resources of the pharmaco
poeia, such as quinine, arsenic, bis
inuth, etc., afford no adequate safe
trnard.
The Hitters are also highly desirable
as a substitute for the ordinary nervines
and sedatives. The hydrate or chloral
and the bromide of potassium are both
highly pernicious drugs, the first
clouding the brain and, it is said, weak
ening the tonicity of the venous sys- !
tern : and thelatterruiningthedigestion
and infesting the blood. Ilostetter's
Hitters achieves the remedial purpose
of both these medicines, which is to
sooth tho brain and nerves, without
causing anv hurtful after effects, but
on the contrary, toning as well as
soothing the irritated sensorium. The
nervous invalid who uses this superla
tive vegetable nervine, finds in it a
source of unspeakable relief, and of un-
woiueu vitality as well.
