Waverj.y Club. The Waverly Clulj
of Portland made a moonlight excur
sion to this city- last Tuesday evening.
About 9 o'clock the whistle of the
steamer and the music of the band
summoned the denizens tf this place
to the wharf to welcome the Pleasure
seekers. After the parly had sx-nt a
short time in viewing "our teautiful
citv by gas light, they proceeded to
l'o"je's" Hall, where the" band had pre
ceded them, and indulged in tripping
the light fantastic. Alter enjoying
themselves for an hour or two the" gay
excursionists, accompanied by a goodly
number of the young folks of our citv,
who had joined them in this pleasant
allair, repaired to the steamer where
a magnificent luncheon had l?en pre
pared for the occasion. After doing
ample justice to the splendid collation,
thev again wended their way to the
hall to have just one more dance.
When the shrill whistle of the steamer
summoned them, one and all seemed
loth to bid adieu to the hapny scene
there was such an irresistable charm
to the music. After tho usual prelim
inaries, waiting for the laggards, and
hunting lor lost ones, the boat steamed
away with the now tired excursionists.
The alt'air was a success in every partic
ular, and Oregon City will always be
glad to welcome such pleasant parties.
We have just received from Messrs.
Sherman it Ilyde, music dealers, San
Francisco, a beautiful new song and
chorus entitled "Darling Little Jessie,"
written in the opular style by James
A. Kerr. The various minstrel" troupes
throughout the country have taken it
up, and it bids fair to become as popu
lar as "Is my Darling True to Me,"
published by" the same house. The
price of each of these songs is but .'$"
cents, and will be forwarded, postpaid,
by the publishers, upon receipt of the
amount in currency or postage stamps.
Elkctiox. The election last Monday
passed olf very quitely, and, strange to
say, wo did not hear of a single dispute.
Heretofore election day has leen re
garded as especially set apart for "fun
and tights," but this was an exception
to the general rule, and we sincerely
hope it will continue to be so. The
dilierent candidates put forth every
el fort to secure tho desired end, and
this precinct polled its full strength.
We give the vote of the dilierent pre

The facts referred to in the
caption are the facts in relation
above
to the
victories over disease achieved by Hos
teller's Stomach Bitters. That renown
ed tonic is daily adding fresh laurels of
popularity to the great reputation
which it long since obtained as a reme
dy for dyspepsia, constipation, bilious
ness, nervous disorders,urinary trouble
intermittent ami remittent fevers,
rheumatism and debility, and demon
strating to the satisfaction of the public
its suieriority to the palliatives which
Hood the market, and. whose make-believe
cures are trumpeted in manufac
tured testimonials.
It is a subject of honest pride to the
proprietors of Hostetter's Bitters, that
no claims have ever been advanced in
its behalf that could not be corrobor
ated by amide proofs, but most assur
edly had such been the case they could
have expected nothing better than that
a preparation bolstered up by state
ments of the same .stripe as those in
dulged in by the proprietors of cheap
local bitters and inalcoholic rubbish,
would speedily die of inanition.
Such has been the fate of thousands of
bepulfed shams, rather less efficacious
than bilge water.
The success of tho Bitters is attribut
able to their genuine excellence. The
public has observed that what thev are
advertised to do. they do, and that no
incredible pretensions are made on
this account. They have gained, and
will continue to retain the confidence
and respect of an enlighted communi
ty, far too intelligent to be long im
posed upon by tho Sham Abrahamism
of unscrupulous quacks and disreputa
ble speculators.
