The District Attorney of Idaho
Territory has just completed his la
bor of thirteen days, taking testi
mony in the Langford Nez Perce
Agency case. Mr. Brents, of Walla
Walla, was employed in behalf of the
Government, who examined a largo
number of witnesses.
Salt Lake advices say that Phelps,
one of the penitentary convicts who
killed the warden aud escaped a few
days ago, was fatally shot, last week,
by Sheriff Halliday, of Santaquin,
while trying to arrest him. William
son and Smith, who escaped at the
same time have been caught.
The Nsz Perces Indians passed
through Weston last Friday on a visit
to llomly's baud on the reservation.
They say that the object of their
visit is horse racing, but it is thought
bymanythat they have other motives.
From an estimate just made of the
amount of wheat sown in the vicinity
of Weston from Dry creek to Rich
ard's Station, on Wild horse,, it is
found that 5,000 acres is the proxi
mate amount.
A late dispatch from Cheyenne to
the Oi-eijoulini. says: James Allen ar
rived here from the Black Hills yes
terday, for supplies. He returns in
a few days. He brings with him
several hundred dollars worth of
gold dust, and reports business in
the hills lively. Over one hundred
teams have left here during the last
three days, loaded with passengers
and freight. The city is full of men
outfitting now, and a large amount of
transportation awaiting passengers
who arrive ou every train.
Andrew Anderson and Albert
Lizenby were out hunting in Uma
tilla county last week. They became
separated and Anderson seeing what
he supposed to be a dear, fired
two shots. He then advanced to see
what had become of the deer, and
fond that his second shot had hit
his companion, Albert Lizenby. The
shot struck high up in one of his
logs, breaking one of tho thigh
hones. Alitter was at once prepared
and the young man packed down
from the mountain to the settlements,
where he was placed in a carriage
aud driven home.
