FROM EAST TO WEST.
BT SUSAN COOUDOE.
The boat cast lose lfer moorings ;
nt-hve" was all we said.
i,.(l-ivf, Old World," we said wit,h
a mile
And none looked back as wo sped
A shining wake or loam uenina
To the heart of the sunset red.
Heavily drove our plunging keel
The warring wav -s v ,
Heavily strove we niht and day
Against )kp West wind keen.
Bent, like a foe, to bar our path
A foe with an awful mien.
Saver a token met our eyes
From the dear land far away;
No storm-swept bird.no drifting branch
Ti tell us where it lay.
Wearily searched we, liour by hour,
Turough tho mist and driving spray.
Till, all in a Hashing moment
The fog-veils rent and Hew,
And a blithesome South Wind caught
the sails
And whistled the cordage through,
And the stars swung low their silver
G lamps
In a domo of airy blue.
An J, breathed from unseen distances,
A new and joyous air
Caressed our senses suddenly
') With a rapture fresh and rare.
"It is the breath of home!" we cried ;
"Wo feel that we are thero."
O Lmd whose tent-roof is tho dome
Of ilea veil's purest sky.
Whose mighty heart inspires the wind
Of glad, stroll-' liberty.
Standing upon thy sunset shore,
Uesido tho water high,
Long may thy rosy smile bo bright;
Alovf the ocean din;
The voung, undaunted voice bo heard,
Calling the whole world kin.
And ever be thy arms held out
To take the storm-tossed in 1
Tyrannical Fashion.

the hair. This, "the crowning glory"
of a woman, can be worn as she
pleases, and what work many make
of it! Now" a coiffure called tho
"Grecian knot" is coming into fash

says: About ono woman out of twen-

white forehead, rather straight nose,
well-rounded face and throat, ant
the careless knot of hair low in the
nape of the neck, with a puro white
pari in.ine center ot the head, from
which the hair ripples naturally over
the temples and ears, is beautiful,
making the wearer a Greek goddess
at once, or what is better nowadays
a charming American woman. But
to take tho remaining twenty-four
women who have all kinds of fore

and a curl or two, finger puffs above
the forehead, and little rings falling
over it; pnt the severe Greek knots
low down on these he ds, draw the
hair over tho pretty pink ears, nar
row the temples and cheeks by al
most obscuring theai, and what is
the result? The stately woman looks

Is widely known
as one of the most
effectual remedies
ever discovered for
cleansing the sys
tem and purifying
the blood. It has
stood the test of
years, with a con
stantly growing rep
utation, based on
intrinsic virtues, and sustained by. its re
markable cures. So mild as to be safe and
beneficial to children, and yet so searching
as to effectually punre out the rreat coi
ruptions of the blood, such as the scrofulous
and syphilitic contamination. ImDurities.
or diseases that have lurked in the system
for years, soon yield to this powerful anti
dote, and disappear. Hence its wonderful
cures, many of which are publicly known,
of Scrofula, and all scrofulous diseases,
