The 1 immigration (Question.
Saxdt, Feb. 27, 1S75.
EuiToit Exteijpkise: I am mucli
pi eased to leavn, by a lale issue of
your paper, tliat there is a movement
started to publish and distribute ex
tensively a description of Oregon,
its resources ami the' advantages it
offers to immigrants, and judging
from the gentlemen who have been
selected to serve as the Immigration
Committee for Clackamas county, if
properly assisted by the citizens,
this county will be well and favora
bly represented among, her sister
counties. Taking into consideration
the advantages of more rapidly in
creasing our population, I think
there are few who have the welfare
and prosperity of our county at heart
but will contribute toward carrying
forward so desireablo project. That
we have a vast section of country
lying within the boundary of our
county but sparcely populated and
possessing all the advantages that
climate, soil and situation can be
stow, has certainly been kept a secret
long enough from the thousands who
are continually seeking homes. It
was by accidentally passing through
this county five years ago that I
came to know that there was land
unoccupied and unclaimed lying so
near the best markets in the State.
Although I have traveled from Maine
to Oregon, overland, and from the
eastern to the southern boundary of
our State, I do not know where a
man with small means could do bet
ter than in Clackamas county. Two
of my neai-est neighbors who have
settled here recently, after traveling
over a large portion of California and
Oregon, nearly exhausting their
means, it was accidentally while in
Portland they learned there were
homesteads here to be had. They
are now happy and contented in
their new homo.
Our acres are not very broad yet,
nor are our purses full to overflow
ing, yet, when appealed to, I hope
the citizens of Cascade precinct will
respond liberally to carry the goo 1
work on to success.
Yours respectfully, .

The stomach has been well named a
"royal organ," since it sways and controls
the entire system, every gland, tissue and
nerve sympathizing with it as the servants
of a prince sympathize with their master.
Each one is fed and sustained by it even
tte brain itself, tho center of sensation, is
absolutely dependent upon it for susten
ance. Consequently, when thOj stomach
fails to perform its all-important otlice, the
subordinate organs also falter in their du
ty. The reason why Ilostetter's Stomach
Hitters have such a wondiorfal beneficial
effect upon the general -ltealtli and are
such a reliable preventive" of disease, Is
that they speedily overcome weakness or
disorders of the stomach, and thus Insure
complete nourishment of tho entire sys
tem and a healthful performance of its
various functions. Unlike those stimu
lants whose alcoholic principle is unmodi
fied by Judicious medication, the spirituous
basis of these Hitters, which is of the purest
description, holds in solution herbal alter
atives and invigorauts to which a foremost
rank lias been assigned in materia medi
ca. Hut it is not alone the fact that these
sovereign botanic elements enter into the
composition ot the Hitters that constitute
them such a benign tonic and corrective,
but also that they are so happily combined
t hat t tie full effect of eacli is exerted upon
t he disordered or debilitated system. The
digestive and secretive organs are the first
to experience their beneficent operation,
which extends, by sympathy, to the brain,
the nerves and t lie circulation. The influ
ence thus exerted Is fruitful of those great
sanitary results which have built- up the
reputation of this truly national medicine.
