the valuation made by the State Hoard,

with this order, the Siieritr has posted
notices that he will be at t he precincts
where he had collected the taxes, com
mencing on the liith inst., for the pur
pose of refunding and correeting the
reeeiot of those wlio overpaid. Those
interested will take notice and get their
money.
New M aciiineuy. From the Orego
n'lAU we larn that the proprietors of
the Woolen Mills in this city, in order
to meet the active demands of trade,
found it neeessaay some time ago to add
another set of machinery to the mills.
Orders were forwarded to North Ando
vcr, Massachusetts, for the required
machinery. which were promptly tilled.
Advices were received from the manu
facturers a short time since, containing
the pleasing intelligence that the ma
chinery was shipped for this place. It
is expected to arrive here about the 1st
of February.
Finished. Mr. James Athey, who
has been employed the past summer
on reconstructing the Milwaukie Mills,
has returned home, having finished his
job. We learn from him that the mill
is now in tine order, and the old build
ing, as reconstructed, is better than it
has ever been before. Some of the ma
chinery being new, it will take a few
days to get everything to work-properly.
The Standard Mills have a good
reputation, aud wo are informed that
the quality of flour now being turned
out is equal to any heretofore made.

ble sickness in our town at present.
Last week Prof. Pope was ohlised to
close his school for .1 couple of days, on
account of sickness. Reuben Smith
has also been confined to his residence
for a week past. Hon. John Myers had
his orporation enclosed within the
peaceful walls of his residence one day
this week, but is all right again. He
evidently didn't get si.-k all over, or he
could not have finished in one day.

Gone to Taco.ua. Rev. Mr. Sellwood
left here last Tuesday for Tacoma,

pulpit at St. Paul's Church next" Sun
day. Accident. Last week, while Charles
JIarclay was t-ngagsd in the factory, he
iccidently placed his hand on some
machinery, which caught his little lin
ger, lacerating it so badly that it was
found necessary to amputate it at the
first joint. It is gettiug along very
nicely.

Mr. Richard Gerdes, of Eagle Creek,
gave us a call last Tuesday. He rejxirts
