Section 1. The oilice of Snperntendent
of Public Instructi n is hereby detutclu-d
from the tiice ol (iiiviTno and ci fated a
di-tinct atvk separate oilice. The Siipenn

the first instance, elected by joint ballot of
tl.is Legislative Assembly,, ami tie sbull bold
bis ofliee until his successor is duly elected
and (ualitiel.
Stc. 2. A .Superintendent of Publ'c In
struction shill on elected at the-, general elec
tion of the year eighteen imndred and
seventy-four and every four years there
after, and .shall qualify end enter upon t he
discharge of his duties at the time tixed by
law for other Stite flicers. He shall re
ceive un annual .salary of one thoitsmd live
hundred dollars, payable in the s i me man
ner as the salari-s of other Slate oflicers are
laid.
Sec. C. The Superintendent of Public In
struction shad be provided with au oilice lo

necessity stationery, lights, fuel, etc, to oe
