Pukk. We learn !hat most of our farm

feed for hogs. This we regard as a good
move. Pork always pays when wheat, is
worth less than one dollar, and we see no
immediate prospect of wheat bringing this

W'ukat. The wheat market in this

ranging at the mills, delivered. is 70 cents,
and on the river f') rents. There is prob
ably but little hope for the price going
higher than these figures for sometime.

SOME FACTS IX THE LIFE OF U.YSSFS'.
! From the Manchester (X. II.) Union, July '25.
j l ite New York World, savs: '-There is
a story which has lunar been emi-.it
military circles of a certain captain of
the I uurih Lnite.l States infantry, who.
being stati.. ned e.n the I'aciiic coast some
twenty years aeo. repeatedly (Fsgraced
himself by being foiunl drtink while on
duty. His superior officer. Ions; unwil
ling to ruin him. fiually found" himself"
obliged to take decisive steps. He called
the delinquent before, and insisted upon
his giving in his written resignation. -1
shall not use this,? said the colonel. -nn'ess
you compel me to ty again publiclv
bringing scandall upon the service. In
that case I will instantly forward it to
Washington' The story runs that after
nogreatlap.se of time the unhappy c ip
tain once more lapsed. The threat wu
executed. The army lost an officer and
St. Louis gained a citizen. To nu man in
the country can this storv be better kuown
than to President Grant."
W'e are able to state the facts alluded
to above with exactness, and we think it
our duty to do so. While sojourning at
Washington iu IS(;7. we met a gentleman
who was an officer in that resiment at the
time referred to. Its command. -r was
olonel, afterwards general. Lucbanan.
who commanded at Xew Orleans for some
time during the war. The '-captain" re
terred to was Lieutenant S. Grant His
dissipation was shocking and perpetir.il,
and fianally culminated, at a public din
ner of the officers, in an offense name
less here so flagrant and revolting that
Col. Duchanan gave to Grant the alterna
tive of resignation or a court-martial.
Of course he preferred the former, and
resigned, as affirmed above. The colonel
agreed to hold it until Grant got drunk,
again, which was very soon, and it was
then forwarded to the department. Our
informant says that Grant left the camp,
and lived for some time in a most abject
degradation among the neighboring In
diaus. Then he went to San Francisco
and opened a billiard saloon, which he
kept till Le "run himself out,' when he
sailed for Xew York. Xow let us meet
him in Xew York: He arrived without a
dollar. He sent to an officer in command
of the harbor and we have this from
that officer's own lips to con e to the city
and meet hiai. He did so, and supplied
him with money to reach his wife's
friends in Missouri, and not one cent of
the money was ever refunded. His ca
reer in Missouri, while living on the farm
with his father-in-law, was simply awful.
We will not -ay what we know
to be true in regard to it. We
only af.d. if required to "match it." in
de; raity and degradi.t'on. we could not
do i: in (he limits of our acquaintance
We know he carrud the sanrj habits into
the army, and we believe that a hundred
thousand of his own men were needlessly
sacrificed i:i consequence, and we can
show when and how. with abuJance of
contemporary testimony, which we will
Dioduee if anybody wants it. We sincere
ly believe that Mr. ('rant is not fit for any
public i or-nion whatever, .intellectually
or morally, and ihat if our people knew
the simple truth in regard to him, he
would not eet an holiest vo.e. Let such
voteis make it their business to learn be

A regiil.ir habit of body is absolutely es
sential to physical healtli and clearness of
inii Hei t. Nor is this all. Beauty of person
cannot co-exist with an unnatural condition
of the bowels. A free passage of the refuse
matter of the system through these natural
waste pipes, is necessary to lhr purity of the
body as the free passage of the offal of a
city throngli its sewers is necessary t i the
health of its inabit.uit.i-.
Indigestion is the primary cinse of most
of the diseases of the discharging organs,
ami one of its most common results is eon
s'ipation. This complaint, besides being
dangerous in itself, has iminv disagreeable
c.wicnmituut.s such as an unpleasant breath,
a sallow skin, contaminating blood and bile,
hemorrhoids, headache, loss of memory,
and general debility.
Hosteller's Stomach Bitters remove all
thesa evils by removing their immediate
cause in I he digestive organs, and regulating
the action of the inte-tmes. The combina
tion of properties in this celebrated prepar
ation is one of its chief merits. It is not
merely a stimulant or a tonic, or an anti
billions agent, or nervine, or a blood de
purcnt, or a cathartic, but ail these cira ive
elements judiciously blended in one power
ful restorative. It fends activity and vigor
to the inert and enervated st mach, re
lieves the ailinientary canal of its obstruc
tions, and gives tone to the membrane which
lines it, gentlv stimulates the liver, bracts
the nerves, and cheers the animal spirits.
No other remedy possesses such a variety
cf hygienic virtues. It is to these character
istic virtues that it owes its prestige as a
household mod cine. Experience has prov
ed that it is harmless as it is efficaci us, and
hence it is popular witii the weaker sex as
with the stronger.
Ifostettt-i's Stomach Hitters are sold in
bottles only, and the trade-mark blown in
the !ass and engraved on the label is the
test of genuineness. Beware ot counter
feits. We clip the following from the Troy X.

'-Some tiiree months since Dr. P. V.

that time it was one of the 1101113- catch-penny
arnuig-meiits to swindle t!e peo.de out of
their money, but during the past few weeks
have became convinced to the contrary.
We know of several prominent citizens who
have siir.-rtd from that loathsome disease
