From tht Richmond Enquirer.
Take ninety pounds of ilesh and

the neck to conform to the Grecian

then add three yards of linen, one
3 hundred yards of ruffles and seventy-fives

six yards ot ftannel, embroidered,
one pair of b;l moral boots
with heels three inches high, four
pounds whalebone in strips, seven
ten hundred and sixty yrds of
steel wire, three quarters of a mile
of tape, eten pounds of raw cotton
or two wire hemispheres, one wire
basket to hold a bushel, four copies
of the New York IL,rald (triple
sheet), one hundred and fifty yards
of silk or dress goods, tive hun
dred yards of point lace, fourteen
hundred yards fringe and other
trinnningSjt welv e gross of buttons,
one box pearl powder, one saucer
of carmine and an old hare's foot,
one bushel of false hair frizzled

pins, one lace hand
nine niches square, with
patent holder. Perfume with attar
of roses, -or sprinkled with nine
drops of the "Blessed Baby" or
"West Hud." Stuff the head with
fashionable novels, ball tickets,
play bills and wedding cards, some
scandal, a great deal of lost time
and a very little sage; add a half
grain of common sense, three
scruples of religion, and a modicum
of modesty. Season with vanity
and affectation and folly. Garnish
with ear-rings, fmger-rings, breast
pins, chains, bracelets, feathers and
flowers to suit the taste. 1 'carls
and diamonds may be thrown in
if you have them ; if not , paste
and pinchbeck from the dollar
store will do.
Whirl all around in a fashionable
circle and stew by gaslight for
six hours.
Great care should be taken that
the thing is not overdone.
if it does not rise sufficiently
add more copies of the Xew York
olhrrhl.
This dish is highly ornamental,
and will do to put at the head of
your table on grand occasions, but
is not suitable for every-day use at
home, ?cing very expensive and in
digestible. It sometimes gives
men the heartburn and causes
them to break, and is certain
death to children.
If you have not the ingredients
at hand, you can buy the article
ready-made in any of our large
cities if you have money enough.

in the United States reports an ac
tual accession to its communion
last year, of 24,124, being a larger
percentage upon its whole number
of members (224,90.")) than anv
other Church. The Methodist
Episcopal Church reports an in
crease of -38,387, and a total mem
bership of 1,172,000. The Reunit
ed Presbyterian Church reported
as received on examination last
year, 27,770, and a total of 455,

(South) reported "(1870) a total
membershp of S7,520 and additions
on profession of 5,;02. The reg
ular Baptists report a total mem
bership of 1,410, 403, and 77,795
added by baptism, and lo,93G ex
cluded and 2,271 erased. There
are many sub-divisions of these de
nominations, and smd'er bodies
whose reports we have not i-oni,

of study, by ministers and others
interested in Church growth.

The result in Xew Hampshire
does not. seem to effect the back
bone of the anti-Grant Senators
otherwise than to stiffen it. It is
now reported that the five leaders
of the republican movement against
the Administration, Sumner, Trum
bull, Sehurz, Fenton, and Tipton,
have met ami pledged to each
other that they will not support
Grant in case he is nominated at
Philadelphia, as be is sure to be.
Sumner is quoted as favoring Judge
Davis, and the rest are united on
whoever may prove the most avail
able man to defeat the ofiic-hold-ers
candidate. The defection of
these men from the Republican
party, w hich may now be consider
ed as definitely declared, leaves
that organization bereft of its
moral strength, dependent onlv
upon patronage and plunder, and
weakened in a point which in oc
casional local success can never re-
pair.
A Doriu.E Role. The X. Y.
Times was prominent in exposing
Tammany frauds. The same paper
is equally prominent in attempting
to cover up the delinquencies of
Federal officials. These latter are
supposed to "divide" with the
Tim, whilst the former refused,
ami here we have the secret of
playing a double roU
i.ui in vonnecticut claims to
have the bed which Xaoh Webster
last slept on: It's about as hard as
some ot Ins dictionary words.
llOW TO MAKE A SCAXDAL-IIOX-
GEii. Take a grain of falsehood, a
handful of Run-about, the same
quantity of Ximbletonguc, a sprig
of the herb Backbite, a teaspoon
ful of Don't you tell it, six. drachms
of Ma free, and a few drops of En
vy. Stir well together and sim
mer half an hour. Add a little
discontent and Jealousy, then
strain through a bag of Miscon
struction, cork it up in a bottle of
Malevolence,, and hang it upon a
skein of street-yarn. Shake it oc
casionally for a few days, and it
will be tit for use. Let a few drops
be taken before walking out, and
the desired result will follow.
There is an old man in Concord,
Xew Hampshire, of such a singu
lar turn that, if there were many
like him, the cordwainers of Con
cord would come to insolvency,
for no matter what may be the de
pression of the thermometer, by
the mercury at 0 or below 0, this
ancient character wears neither
i snoes or stockings muoors or out.
He thinks it wrong to kill animals,
and there-ore wickedto use leather.
On through snow he goes without
a wince, but the letter writer who
describes him says he is somewhat
"husky of voice." We should
think so, especially as out of ten
derness for silk worms or beavers,
he always wears a straw hat.
It having been absurdlv stated
in some benighted quarters, that
Mr. Horace ureeievis m ins
T si I -
Uo-
tage, the Cincinnati t.,ournterual
denies this aspersion with becom
ing warmth. "Mr. Greeley," it
says, "still retains extraordinary
measure of strength and vivacity,
can do more and better work than
most men haif his age, and is in
his prime intellectually ami organ
ically." As regards his aire, the
same paper says: "He is neaily
twenty years younger than the
I'ope, twelve years younger than
Thiers, one year younger than
Gladstone, and but one year older
than Bismark."
A leading Republican paper of
San Francisco says: "ft is only a
few years since that the managers
of the Central Pacific Railroad
Company were humble suppliants
before the people of California for
help to build their road. Xow they
are the haughty masters of the
whole State, controlling its Legis
lature, trade, commerce, and a
majority of its public servants,
and have their iron-bound heel on
the necks of the people."
Won.K r.i-: Sitim.iki). Tt is now
said that Gen. Sickles has favored
tins country with his presence for
the purpose of trying to secure the
second place on the Presidential
ticket. We trust that it is true,
remarks the Detroit Union. It
there was anything wanting before
to make the ticket infamous, it
would be supplied by placing
Sickles on the ticket with Grant.
Fit representatives of the party of
great moral ideas they are. Xice

Will Insist. The "Washington
correspondent of the Jlidi mml
Dispatch says the colored delega
tion to the Philadehlhia Conven
tion will insist that Sumner's sup
lementary civil rights bill shall be
endorsed as a new plank in the
Giant platform, and the Central
Committee of the Colored Repub
lican Association has determined
to demand as a sine qwi -non to
their support of the ticket. The
Radicals have long toyed with the
negroes, but the latter are getting
their eyes open at last.
Lir.Ei:.L Allowance. The
Radicals of Ohio propose to give
the Democrats four of the twenty
Congressmen to which that State
is entitled, and in Illinois they
generously give the Democrats
four of the nineteen. In the for
mer State the Democrats cast 218,
105 votes, and the Radicals 238,-27-
votes, and in the latter, the
Democrats 110,171 a id the Radi

Out of one hundred and thirty
German Bepublican newspapers in
this country, says the St. Louis
Times, the Administration has
counted up just six that favor
Grant's re-nomination. It does
not state how manv of these for
lorn six- are conducted by office
holders. Five is probably a just
estimate.
Oysteu Sausaoes. Chop a pint
of oysters with a quarter of a pound
of veal and a quarter of a pound of
suet, and some bread crumbs; sea

them in a mortar; make them into
little cakes with an egg; flour, and
fry them drv. Serve hot.
A fellow, having a spite at a
siusage-maker, rushed into his
shop, when crowded with custom

the counter, and said: "That

you're not so busy!" and made
his exit.

THE CAUSE OF A GREAT MANY Dis

very reason that they overlooked the caa-ic,

Entozoi a hie Ion-; Study, he would inform
the sick generally that by close observation
and great speriments, has come to the con
clusion that there are more acute and thron

pubic generally, or the profession at large,
are not aware of the number of Patients
who are treated by eminent Physicians, lor

relief. If the disease had Wen understood,
a few doses of Dr. Y's. Socrrijn, Worm

complaint and saved a great many lives.
INHABITANTS OF THE HU
MAN EODY!
What think you reader, of your body be
in a planet, inhabited by living races, as
we inhab t the earth? Whatever may be
your thoughts on the subject, it is even so.
Ymir body may be but a home for parasites
that crawl over the surface, burrow beneath
the skin, nestle in its entrails, and riot and
propagate their kind in every corner ot its
frame.
The following is from the Sun Francisco
Bail, U,,, of January iitjth, 1S7J. (A recent
date.;
Carl J.'artins recently died in Cleveland,
Ohio, from eating meat infected with the
Oca of Tani a Solium. At the Coi oner's
Inpe.-t, on Tuesday, (January 2d,) it was
shown that three weeks before Christmas,
Mai tins purchased a carcass of Turk. Some
of the meet was eaten the same day, and
some was made into saa-agc. Aboil ten
d.tvs iuer, some of the sausage was eaten,
and in a short time the whobi family were
taken sick. Martins died on Sunday. Decern
her :11st, 171. Mrs. Martins and her two
children are now very sick, and the fomcr is
not likel t rec ver. The verdict was in
accordance with the facts. For further par
ticulars, see Cleveland, Ohio, papers of above
date. A Coroner's Inquest brought this
fact to light.
Now I would ask how many more .such
deaths a- inquest would bring to light?
Ponder well, reader, upon this, and thir.k of
the thousands that die every year and no
cuu-e can be as-igned tor their death. Now
the question that would naturally enter the
iniml of the reader, is what .shall I do? The
a ivice of the Dr. would be go to some one
that is competent of treating such com
plaints. And who is more competent than
the one that has made Worms a speciallit
Tkm.vs. Yesterday, Dr. J. W. Van Den
Dei gh exhibited to us a number ot parasites
which had been removed from persons af
flicted; there were several ddfetent species
oneof which appears to be entirely unknown
to the tfcedical profes-ion. This new taenia
is shaped something like an orange seed,
but perfectly Hat, or lather tike a cucumber
seed, with a tail about a quarter of an inch
inlergth. Another was a tape worm s7
fiii-t in length, consisting of '..'Inn joints.
Among inedic.il men theie exists no little
difference of opinion relative totheoiigin
of fie.se entozoa. One class of writers be
lieve that these parasites, at least many of
them, originate in the endowment ot animal
molecules with vitality from the parent body,
fivo-e l by certai.i states of the vital forces
of that bodv: the states originating their
orauizutt u and promoting their growth
and propagation. That all description- of
entozoa are met with far more frequently
where animal food is used in greatest abund
ance, is an indisputable fact, especially
where t!ie food is the flesh of the "unclean
beasts," u hich the Jews and Mohammedans
are forbidden to partake of. Hut our inien
lion is not to w. ite a thesis upon this subje. t:
we onlv desire to c'lroivcle the fact that Dr
J. W. Van Den i' rirh has found a metfeine
a simple vegetable wnieli ixrows in tbuud
anCe m California, which is a dead shot to
al lenio.na, of whatever description, gener
ally accomplishing its object In from an hour
and a half to six hours. Morning Coll.
Had we the space here, hundreds of testi
monials could be prodaeed, testifying to the
truth of the assertions that have here been
made, but it would be useless and would
oulv occupy the reader's time.

and Liver. It also cures other com
plaints, to which it would not seem especi
ally adapted, such as Dropsy, Dyspep
sia, Fits, Neuralgia, Ileart Disease,
Female Weakness, Debility, and
Leucorrhoca, when they are manifesta
tions of the scrofulous poisons.
It is an excellent restorer of health and
strength in the Spring. By renewing the
appetite and vigor of the digestive organs,
it dissipates the depression and listless lan
guor of the season. Even where no disorder
appears, people feel better, and live longer,
for cleansing the blood. The system moves
on with renewed vigor and a new lease of
life.
