term of the Court being five months hence,

'petitioned for an extra term of the Circuit

learned whether the. request has been

Since the above was in type we learn
from the Portland dailies that there will
be a special term of the Circuit Court for
Clackamas county, to convene on the 2lth

Missionary Convocation at Elgenk
City. W e learn that quite an interesting
Missionary Convocation of the Episcopal
Church was held in Eugene City last week.
beginning on Friday and continuing over
the lollowing Sunday. 1 here were pres
ent of the clergy the Bishop of this Di
cese.and the Rev. Messrs. Burton. Labcock.
Rosenberg, J. R. W. Sellvvoed and John
W. Sellwood. The services were largely
attended, and at the morning and evening
services on Sunday the church was filled
to overflowing, many having to go away
for want of room. At the afternoon ser
vice the Bishop baptized two children and
one adult and at ihe evening service con
firmed one person. .The Episcopalians
have a nice church, a school house and
dwelling house at Eugene City, ne are
glad to learn that Bishop Morris hopes to
be able to have services there at least two
Sundays in each month, and shortly to se
cure a lesident clergyman for them, who
will not onlv take charge of the parish
but also open a school which they sadly
need, and which doubtless can be we.
sustained from the very first. We are also
very much pleased to learn that the Rev-
Mr. Bubcock is meeting with good encour
agement at Corvallis. His services are
well attended; the second term of bis
school fins just opened with fitly pupils.
Bishop Morris is doing a good work in
Oi'-gon, which the people "will not be
long in appreciating. While some men
come hither to advance the material inter
ests of the country, he has come hither
and is advancing, with like energy and
skill, its educational and religious inter
ests. And how important these are to a
well ordered society, every reflecting
mind well knows. All the material pros
periiy in the world is only the bitterest
curse, where the head and the heart have
been uneducated rightly to use and enjoy
it.

Whence comes that firm reliance, that abso
lute, undoubting faith in the efficacy of Hos
tetter's Stomach Bitters as a remedy for in
digestion, billious disorders, intermittent and
remittent fevers, which notoriously prevail
in all parts of the United States? This con
fidence has been growing f.r twenty year,
and it is stin extending. It is n,t the re-mlt
of credulity; it has not been engendered bv
any human device, but is the spontaneous
and natural consequence of "experience.
What people see daily going on under their
own eyes they cannot question. When fam

wholesome vegetable tonic, as a preventive,
e-cape periodical fevers, and their immedi

are prostrated by the disea-e". how is it pos

seen that obstin-ite cases of dyspepia. of
liver complaint, of constipation, of nervous
weakness, and of general debility yield to
the operation of the famous remedy, how
can even incred ility itself withhold its en
dorsement? Eyewitnesses of the salutary
