Radical Coxvkntiox. The Republican
Convention for this county meets in this
city to-morrow to select delegates to the
State Convention, and place in nomina
tion a ticket which the Democrats will de
feat on the 3d of June. Things are nut
working as smooth as the leaders desire,
and a bitter contest is going on among
them. We may anticipate a little " un
pleasantness' Padi.y Inji hkk. Frank Toepleinan, an
employe in the Factory, was very serious
ly injured last Saturday, lie was looking
iip-tho wall to reach bis coat, and not ob
serving where he was stepping, fell into a
hole in the floor, striking as he fell with
his whole weight f n the stomach against
the edge of the floor. He has Fullered
severely, but is now improving. Dr. Ross
is tending on him.

LKCrvnE. Father Win. Harman, Le?
turer for the Good Templars, delivered an
address at the Court House in this city,
last Tuesday evening, to a large audience.
The lecture was. so we are informed, very
interesting, and was received with great
applause. Father Harmon is a good
speaker and will not fail to do good work
in the cause he so zealously advocates.
IIahdwakk. Although Mr. John R.
Foster, corner of Front and Alder streets.
Portland, has but recently resumed the
hardware business, his house has already
gained a wide reputation, lie has a fine
new stock of everything in his line, and
customers can always rely ou getting
goods as cheap as they can be purchased
in the Slate.
Pkofessioxak. Dr. F. Barclay informs
the public thror.gb our columns that he is
still practicing bis profession. The Doc
tor's reputation throughout Oregon as a
successful and compentent physician is
too well established to need recommenda
tion troni us. He is probably the oldest
pioneer physician in Oregon.

Diseases that progress rapidly to a crisis
are not ihe only ones to be dreaded, (-anker
or dry rot does not blast a tree as suddenly
as a stroke of lightning, hut unless arrested
it destroys it as certainly ; and in like man
ner chronic debility, a'tb uijih it does not
kill with the swiftness" of yellow fever, is :n
s-ure to sap thespiings of lite eventually as
any acute disease, if not checked by invigor
ating medication. There is something inex
pressibly touching in the spectacle prema
ture decay. Languor, pallor, ematiciation,
deprc.-sion of spirits, and a distaste for ex
ertion, tire its ordinary symptoms, and they
should be promptly met by a tonic treatment.
The best invigoi ant and exhilerant that can
l-e administered in a case of this kind is
llote!tet's Stom.ich Hitters. The stimulat
ingjjrinc'ple of the preparation rouse the
dormat energies of the system, and the
strengthening and regulating properties give
a permanent and healthful impu'se to the
vital forces thus brought h.to pla . The
failing appetite is re-awakened, the proce-s
of d gestion and assimilation are quickened,
the quality of the blood is improved, the se
cretions become more natural, and every or
gan that contributes to the iioiiri.-hment of
the body undergoes salutary change. By
these means the repair of the physical struct
ure is effected and its health and vigor re
stored. In no class of disea-es has the ben

'yilE CAUSE OF A CHEAT MANY PIS
J eases, that have been pronounced incur
able by the most eminent physicians, for the
very reason that they overlooked tbe can?,
and as Dr. Van Ieti I'.ergh has made the
Kntozoa a lite long Study, he would inform
tbe sick generally that by close observation
and gre.it cxpei imeuts, has come to the con
clusion that there are more acute and thron-cdii-eises
caused by Worms, Hydatids, An
i naleu'te, or other species of Entozoa. The
public generally, or the profession at large,
are not aware of the number of Patients
who are treated by eminent Physicians, lor
this, that, or such a t omplaiut, without any
rehet. If the disease had been understood,
a few doses of Dr. Y's. Sovereign, Worm
JiemeJy would have immediately cured the
complaint and saved a great mauy lives.
INHABITANTS OF THE HU
MAN BODY!
What think jou reader, of your body be
ing a planet, inhabited by living races, as
yve inhabit tbe earth? Whatever uia3r be
your thoughts on the subject, it is eveii so.
Your body may be but a home for parasites
that crawl over the surface, burrow beneath
the skin, nestle in its entrails, and riot aud
propagate their kind in every corner ot its
frame.
The following is from tbe San- Francisco
Bulletin, of January i:(j'.h, 172. (A recent
date.;
Carl Martins rt cently died in Cleveland,
Ohio, from eating meat infected with the
Vva of Tunuen Solium. At the Coroner's
Inque.-t, on Tuesday, (January 2d.) it was
shown that three weeks before Christmas,
Martins purchased a carcass of Pork. Some
of the meet was eaten the same day, and
some v,ras made into sausage. About ten
d.!3's later, some of the sausage was eaten,
and in a sboit time the yvhols family were
taken sick. Martins died on Sunday, Decem
ber ;! 1st, 1S71. Mrs. Martins and her two
children are now very sick, and the fonier is
not likeh to recover. The verdict was in
accordance with the facts. For further par
ticuhii s. sre Cleveland, Ohio, papers of above
date. A Conner's Inquest brought this
fact to light.
Now 1 would ask how many more such
deaths an inquest would bring to light ?
Ponder well, reader, upon this, and thi.k of
itie thousa ids that d;e every year and no
cau-e can be as-igned tor their death. Now
the question that would naturally enter the
minil of the reader, is what shall I de? The
advice of the Dr. would be go to s irae ore
that is competent of treating such com
plaints. And who is more competent than
the one that has made Worms a speciallity.
Tin i as. Yesterday, Dr. J. W. Van 1) u
Betgh exh'bited to us a number ot parasites
which bad been removed from persons af
flicted; there were several d 11. -rent species,
one of" which appears to be entirely unknown
to the lt edical profession. This new taenia
is shaped something like an orange seed,
but perfectly Hat, or lather like a cucumber
seed, with a tail about a quarter of an inch
in lergth. Another was a tape worm 87
feet in length, consisting of t'.GOo joints.
Among medical men theie exists no little
difference of opinion relative totheoiigin
of these tnto.oa. One class of writers be
lieve that these parasites, at least many of
them, originate in the endowment of animal
mokctdi s with vitality from the parent body,
favo -ed by certai.i states of the v tal fores
of that body; the states originating their
oriLii'iatioii ' and promoting their growth
and propagation. That all descriptions of
e itozoa tire met with far more frequently
where animal food is used in gna'est abund
anee, is an indisputable tact, especially
where the food is the flesh of the "unclean
beasts," i h'ch the Jews and Mohammedans
are forbidden to p;:r.ake of. But our inten
tion :s not to w. ie a thesis mi ni this subject:
u e rnlv desire to chronicle the fact that Dr
J. W. Yan Den Ih rgb has found a medicine
a simple vegetable which grows in bund
ai;Ce sn Califern a, which is a dead shot to
;d letrozoa, of whatever de -cript.on, gener
ally accomplishing its object in in m an hour
and a half to six hours. Morning Cull.
Had we the space here, hundreds of testi
monials eotil 1 be produced, testifying to the
truth of the asser: ions that have here been
made, but it would be useless and would
only occupy the reader's lime
