Works are soon to be established
on the river IMattc for the prepar
ation, on an extensive scale, of Mr.
T. F. Henley's desiccated meats
and extracts. 3Ir. Henley squeezes
a definite amount of juice out of
the fibre, the fibre is then dried,
and the juice evaporated in vacu
um pans, each being exceedingly
rich, palatable and nutricious. The
system of partial desiccation, by
currents of refrigerated air, which
was so successfully applied to the
cargo of Texas beef on the steam
er Firefly, has been emplojed with
equal success for the preservation
of poultry, game and delicate
fruits. Peaches in midwinter, and
cheap poultry in midsummer may
ere long be confidently looked for.
Ax Ixfern-al, Wkix. In San
gamon county, Illinois, near the
village of Laomi, in sinking a weil
recently, the workmen came to a
body of water. A most remark
able feature about this strange
body of water is that, though al
most ice-cold, it is stirred by some
hidden Ibree, and boils and bub
bles up to the height of several
feet above the level when at rest,
and that this commotion of the
water occurs at regular intervals
an hour of rest succeeded by an
hour of bubbling and so on, al
ternating from calm to troubled
waters.
Sir William II., being at a par
ish meeting, made some propos als
which were objected to by a farm
er. Highly enraged, lie said to the
farmer: "Sir, do you know that I
have been at two universities, and
at two colleges at each university'''
" Well, sir," said the farmer,
" what of that ? I had a calf that
sucked two cows, and the observa
tion I made was, that the more he
sucked, the greater calf he grew."

Monday, Xovember 20th, will
long be remembered by the print

the venerable .Joseph Bradley com
pleted his ninety-sixth year. .Mr.
oliradley is the oldest living printer
in the United States, if not in the
world. He still works at the case
in the San oHiee, and, for correct
ness and speed, can put to blush
many who are scores his juniors.

On the, farm of Mr. Cyrus G.
Smith, of Newmarke t, -X. II., are
a white-oak, fifty feet tall, and a
hemlock, ten feet less, the butts of
which seem to bo united one or
two feet up. Further up, a limb
of the oak g'-ows through the hem
lock, and then a hemlock through
the oak, beating the Siamese twins
by long odds.
The question having arisen in a
lawsuit whether certain animals
were sheep or Iambs, the decision
was made, according to Hearth
and 1 Tonne, not by the age, which
was fifteen months, but bv testimo
ny as to whether they had their
first permanent teeth." Legally,
then, a lamb becomes a sheep when
it gets its first permanent teeth.
A rich bachelor of Xew Jersey
recently died, leaving by will sev

five thousand dollars each, to ladies
who had. rejected him. He said
that they had afterwards grown to
le so ugh- that he could not be
sufficiently grateful.

core of Intermittent is, that it contains no (mi

qninism or other injurious effects whatever upon
tne conslitut'f m. Those cured hv it are left as
healthy as if they had never had the disease.
Fever and Apruc is not alone the conscquenco
of the miasmatic-, poison. A great variety of dis
orders arise from its irritation, amonjc which
are Ncurahria, liheumatism, Gout, Headache,
'.lindness, Tooth-.chc, Earache, Catarrh, Asth

Gvsterios, Pain in tho Hoy. els, Colic, I'arafvsis,
and .leran.sOiiient of the stomach, all of which,
when originating in ihis cause, put on the in
termittent type, or become periodical. This
"Ci'UK" expels the poison from tlie blood, and
consequently cures th.em all alike. IS is an in

while exposed to the infection, that will he ex

Hence it is even more valuable for protection O
