FRANK PRICE, Agent, Weston, Oregon
Oregon has sold road bonds of the
par value of $1,500,000 for tl,.115,
200. The bonds bear four and one
half percent interest, and at the
above fisrure will net the investor
about five and one-half percent.
While it is of course regrettable
that the road bonds do not command
par, the fact should be borne in mind
by critical taxpayers that even Lib
erty bonds and Victory notes can be
bought at n price to yield a higher
rate of interest. When Old Man Or
egon's securities command a better
figure than Uncle Sam's, he hasn't
much reason to feel disgruntled.

Both partita will require a huge
campaign fundthat of the democrats
being , fixed ot' $3,500,000. The re
publicans usually come to.bat with
am even more corpulent sack, and
will likely do so again. We do wish
that each, however, would try to save
something on litterature. We spell
it thus advisedly, for the reason that
it merely litters up the print shop
until available for winter kindling.
Through the passage of the millage
tax bill Oregon's institutions of
higher learning will be enabled to
fulfill their respective functions
without the constant .handicap of
poverty. Presihdent Campbell has
announced a program -of construc
tion and improvement at the Univer
sity of Oregon that will total a mil
lion and a-half dollars within the
next five years.
IJy saying that the league cove
nant is a "supreme blunder," Hard
ing conwnces a good many of us
that he absorbed his only ideas of
world statesmanship when tooting a
horn in a village band.
The Great Only still insists that the
democrats are depending on booze to
elect Cox just as though there were
ny booze now-a-days that anybody
could. depend on.
About the only thing the non-par-tizan
leaguers of Washington state
have ever done we could conscienti
ously endorse, is their vote not to
"enter" the democratic party.
llryan has declined to run for
president on the prohibition ticket,
although it is probably his
chance to keep in practice.
