berian and Russian Karelian troop in
an offensive movement aouthward
along th Murmansk railway on Feb
ruary 19, pushed forward thtrty-flv
miles, capturing considerable railway
material and fifty prisoners and in
flicting heavy lossea on the Bolshevlkl.
While tha other troops moved
through the wood on skis, outflanking
tha enemy at a bridge near tha village
of Ceglahi, the Siberians attacked fron
tally along the railroad and drove the
enemy beyond tha bridge after conald
arable fighting. ;
An Arctic Journey of probably the
greateet magnitude since the famous
Klondike gold rush has brought addi
tional British troops to the Archangel
front to reinforce greatly outnumbered
troop fighting the bolshevlkl. Hun
dred of sleighs driving in single file
over froxen tundra and . along roads
cut through pine forest completed the
most difficult part of their SOO-mlle
trip in 18 daya.
Tha trip waa planned and directed
by members of Sir Ernest H. Shackle
ton's Antarctic expedition, including
Dr. Macklln, and wa a signal success.
Sir Ernest himself, although not par
ticipating in th Journey to the front,
arrived at Archangel on an Ice-breaker
with the first detachment of reinforc
ing troopa.

Women Pay Tax.
Women are subject to all tbt require
ments of the Income Tax. Whether
tingle or married, a woman 'a Income
from all source most be considered.
. If unmarried, or If living apart from
her husband, she must maka her re
turn for 1018 if her net income waa
$1,000 or over.
If married and living with her hus
band, her income must be considered
with the husband's In determining tha
liability for a return. Their Joint In
come, less the credits allowtd by law,
is subject to normal tax. Tha wife's
net income la considered separately in
computing any surtax that may b due.
Husband and wife file Jointly, as a
rule. If the husband 4oea not Include
his wife's Income In his return, tha
wife must file a separate return.

penalties on a peraon who fall to
make return on time, refoaea to make
return or renders a fraudulent return.
For failure to maka return and pay tax
on time a fine of not mora than f 1.000

refusing wilfully to mak return, or
for making a false or fraudulent re
turn there ia a fine of not exceeding
$10,000 and Imprisonment et not ex
ceeding ona year, or both.
Farmer Income Taxable.
' Every farmer and ranchman who
had a fair or a rood year In 1013 must
heed the' Income Tax thla year. Ha
must consider all his income as tax
able. He la entitled to deduct from
hla gross Income all amounts expended
In carrying on hla farm. The cost of
farm machinery, farm buildings and
Improvement cannot be deducted.
