Miss Violet Wriggle, a graduate
of Weston High school, passed a suc
cessful examination for a teacher's
certificate, and now holds a certifi
cate granting her the right to teach
in the elementary grades and junior
high schools of Oregon.

ena councill, reports the Press, a
warrant for 17723.10 was issued to
Bert Cartano in settlement of the
famous damage suit brought by
him against the city for alleged in
juries sustained by a defective side

Bride, local stockmen, were out in
the stubble fields twelve miles north
of Walla Walla a few days ago look
ing after their cattle. They say
the farmer in that locality are al
ready acting as though winter jsx
over. They have gathered up their
farm stock in readiness to begin
plowing and will be out In the
fields soon if the present weather
continues. .
Friend Athena has also had her
waterworks troubles, as indicated
by the following from the Presa:
"Resident of Adams street be

much discomfited as the result of
frozen water mains during the last
two weeks. The pipe line, which
is only down to a depth of 16 to 18
inches, froze solid during the re
cent cold snap and households de
pendent upon service from that
source,, had no service."
