Red Cross just one hour to make a
pair of sock for a soldier, in
France, for the new knitting- ma
chine turned out a sock at the rate
of one in 30 minutes, says the
East Oregonian. This is the record
established by E. J. King, son of
Mrs. JF. E. King, who has mastered
the mechanism of the machine and
made tive pair of socks in one af

Persons desiring to construct new
buildings during the remainder of
the war must expect to encounter
considerable delay and difficulty
before receiving a permit from
the government to go ahead. Not

of the Umatilla County Patriotic

land. The recommendation by both

A message received here yester
day announced the death of Ellis
Pinkerton at his home in southern
Oregon. Mr. Pinkerton was born
in the Weston neighborhood, and
had many friends here who will
sincerely mourn his passing. He
was a graduate of the Eastern Or
egon Normal here, and fo!16wed
school teaching, as a profession.
He left a wife and two children and
is also survived by two brother?,
Charle L. Pinkerton of Weston and
Fred Pinkerton of Athena. The
remains will be shipped to Weston
for burial.
