Tbe affair was held in tbe hail above the Alcazar Theater and waa attended by about 20 Bremen and a few invited guests. The initiation ceremon ies of the department are brief, but to tbe point, as the initiated will testify. Although many of the mysterioua feats that the candidates are compelled to per form are dagerous, it only servea as a training for those who enlist in tbe cause and prepares them for the work to come later. One candidates fell from the top of an inch board to the floor, but waa not seriously injured, another was placed in a delicate and dangerous position but waa equal to the occasion and acquitted him self with credit. After the regular bus!ness the members sat dowD to tables that were loaded with those articles that go to make up a good old fashioned “Heidel burg” lunch. That this part, of tbe evening’s program was highly apprec ated was attested by the by the skeleton like appearance of the tables at tbe finish. After the inner man had been satisfied and satisfied, each member responded to a toast. This feature brought ready wit and fun, and an hour or more was spent in commending and welding the spirit of good fellowship, which should and does prevails in such organizations. 8omeof the ti-its or short addressee were well rendered and the fact was de veloped that the talents of many present were not confined to fire fighting alone, but that they could orate in a manner t bat would do credit to some of the spread eagle lawyers.
