Eugene.—Simultaneously with the beginning of construction work on the Southern F’acilk- Company's Kugeue- Coos Bay branch, the Pacific Great Western Railway Company, whose survey parallels the Southern Pacific survey to the coast, has begun work at the west end of the big tunnel through the Coast Mountains at the summit. 23 tulles west of Eugene At this |>oint the two surveys conflict and If both tunnels are built the western end oí each will penetrate the mouti tain at about the same place, or there will be a big legal battle In the courts for possession of the site I Form Irrigation District. Near Co quille there is a quarry where a first class quality of stone for roadmaking can be procured. The commissioners will build a railroad to reach the quarry so that the stone can be dis trlbufed along the roadways and used In making permanent roads.
