"What would Jesus do?” Thia ques
tion is raising new interest. An inter
denominational campaign will soon 1«
started in Portland. Wm. B. Wallace
of Cleveland, Ohio, started the first
campaign. It has been said that the
life' teachings and principles of Jesus
Christ are the solution of every problem
known to human experience.
OREGON
Rev. Ingalls, pastor of the Methodist
church, expects to be absent from his
work for a short time and his pulpit
will lie supplied by Rev. Green, lately
from Iowa.
Mr. and Mra. Swaliel are living at

A message announcing the death of
Mr. I-a.Mear in Deadwood, S. D., was
received by bis friends a few days ago.
No particulars as to the cause of his
death have been received, lie leaven
a wife and eight children to mourn hin
death.
The editor of The Herald was calling
in thia neighImrhood one day thia week.
We are pleased to learn that a steadily
increasing number of people are coming
to realize the value of a govsl newspaper
in the county outside of Portland. We
would not seek to detract from Portland
indeed that city is without iffiubt des
tined to lie at least the second city on
tbe Pacific coast. But while this is an
acknowledged fact, we should not allow
Portland's greatness to overshadow the
rest of the state or even the county.
Each section must develop its own
resources. Nothing tends more to this
end than a well supported local news
paper.
