EDITORIAL COMMENT
These early showers may spoil
a few bunches of hay or grain
but they foretell early fall past
urage which will more than off
set the injuries produced.
Our vacation friends will find
themselves in need of better
housing than a tent affords, if
the present tendencies of the
climate, are not changed early.
Perhaps we will appreciate their
early return whether they do or
not.
The selection of the Smith
tract as a park site by the city
council will be satisfactory to al
most everyone not personally in
terested. It lies well, has good
drainage, is mostly cleared
ground and can be easily shaped
up for any desired purpose.
There is a nice grove, an especial
feature of which is a number of
typical Oregon cedars. There is
also a goodly variety of other
native trees. The ground used
by our boys for a ball park is in
cluded and an exhibition drive
can be easily provided. It goes
without necessary proof that the
purchase was the most econom
ical of all that were offered, con
sidering our finances and time
limits.
ness and graft. It balances up
our mental vision and helps us to
see the good in the other fellow,
even though he differs from us.
Tne man who does not make a
mistake is an undesirable. If it
were possible to have such a per
son he would be an undesirable
for his sphere of usefulness
would be limited by his appalling
perfection. Let us not get the
conceited notion that “we are
it,’’ that our ideas are perfect,
that those who oppose our ideas
are fools or rascals, and let us
not forget to be courteous about

Courtesy is a quality that often
goes wanting. A very common
notion ¡3 that it is something to
practice when you expect a fa
vor. Not at all. The truly cour-
teous person is polite whether
they gain by it or not. Some
people seem to think they are
justified in being insulting when
ever they diverge from your
views. They simply have one
quality and that is selfish con
