The cost per dollar of collecting taxes under Sheriff Stevens administration compared with

Word’s administration. For the first four months of 1908, $2,650,054.50 in taxes, an in­
crease in business of 55 per cent over the $1,725,315.03 taxes handled by Mr. Word in the
first four months of 1906, was handled by Sheriff Stevens with but 23 per cent increase in
extra help employed.
