The raios have helped the crops
a ad stopped the howling.
Congressman Ellis ran like a
eired wolf and the pt ople of st
ern Oregon are mighty glad of it.
There is no use of any more
jangle over Statement No. 1. It is
Jiere, and it looks like it is here to
fctay. Come to think of it, it is a
small matter when compared with
national legislation.
The primary election has dem
onstrated the fact that the sample
ballots should be oat early. Es
pecially will this be true in , the
June elec'iou with the big ticket
and the numerous amendments.
The ticket will be complicated and
the voters should have all the time
jossible to vote intelligently.

Game With Lexington.
The bull garue between Heppner
and Lexington last Sunday after
noon on tba local diamond was in
some ways an excelleut game. Both
teams got up a nice bunch of errors
and allowed many a score that
should never have been recorded.
However, they showed the proper
stuff and by hard practice and a
few good workouts by a severe
coach they will be able to dish up
a game ot b-dl that is baeeball.
The loctl team, on field work,
hai it over the visitors by long
odds and showed more (alent at
base running, but played rather
sluggish.
The Lexington pitcher, being an
old player, had it on our lads for
head work, but delayed the game
badly by fooling around after he
was in the box.
All in all it was a good game for
the opening of the season and the
fact is evident that we will see
some good ball before the season
is over.
Rose burg gave a big majority
for paving.
A. Smythe & Son of Oillmm
county are shearing 40,000 sheep,
2,000 a day.
An oil derrick is being erected
ou Ramsey creek, west of Dufur,
where oil will be drilled for.
