AUGUSTUS HIALLOBI DEAD former Prominent Citizen of flepp ner Passes Away at Jef f erson. Death of Geo. Heck. Augustus Mallory died at Jeffer son, Or., January 29. He was s brother of Rufus Mallory, of Port 11 1 sT fa l iana. jir. juanory was corn in Chenamgo County, New York, Jan nary iz, loiy, ana was b) years old at the time of bis death. He came to Oregon in 1869, and after spending two years iu the Willam ette Valley, moved, in . 1S70 to what waa tbeD Umatilla Connty, at a place near what afteaward be. came the town of Heppner. He afterward became a resident of Heppner and successively filled the offices of Justice of the Peace, Judge of Morrow County, Postmas ter of Heppner, and Commissioner of the United States Circuit Court- About 15 years ago Mr. Mallory ost the use of his legB through some affection of the hip joints and could move about only in a wheel chair. His wife died at Heppner about five years ago. About three years ago he left Heppner and made his home with his daughter Mrs. J. B. Looney, at Jefferson, where he died. Four children, two daughters and two sons, survive him. Mrs. Looney, of Jefferson; Mrs. W. T. Wright, of Union; W. Mallory, of lone, and Charles Mallory, of Cascade Locks. The body was brought to Hepp ner and funeral services were con ducted at the Methodist church ast Saturday afterttrrnoon. The Geo. Beck, the well known stoei man, died at his home in Fox Val ley last Tuesday. Mr. Beck has been sick foreeca time. Mr. Beck was born in Angust3 Maine, January 25, 1852. Comiog: West when young he settled ir Grant County 38 years ago, and at. the time of his death was the old est resident of Fox Valley. He was a charter member of ths' Long Creek" lodge of Masons and was a highly respected citizen. He was never married.
