CONTEST NOTICE,
& RARI
COMES.
Where did yon cone from, babv dear?
Out of the everywhere into the 'here.
Where did you get your erei so bluer
Out of the sky as I came through.
What makes the Hfht is them sparkle
and spin ?
Some of the starry spike let in.
Where did you get that little tear?
I found it waiting when I got here.'
The fart is as sad as it is true that the
baby finds the tear waiting to dull its
blue eyes, and stain its soft cheeks. At
the first it " has no language but a cry."
Its one necessity is but to give expres
sion to its suffering, and for that a tear
suffices.
The mother wh stoops in anguish
over the wailing child would do any
thing to ease its suffering. But she is
helpless. The time when she could have
done so much for her child is past. She
did not realize that in those anxious
nervous days when she shrank from the
ordea! of motherhood she was preparing
suffering for the baby.
The path of motherhood is soothd
and niaile easy for those who use Dr.
Pierce's Favorite Prescription. It gives
physical buoyancy and mental bright
ness. It tran-juilizes the nerves, en
courapes a healthy appetite and induces
refreshing sleep. It gives the mother
strength for her hour of trial, and the
confidence and content whieh come
from strength. It makes the birth hour
practically painless, and by increasing
the natural, food secretions, it enables the
healthy mother to enjoy the happiness
of nursinp her child.
"Favorite Prescription" contains no
alcohol, neither opium, cocaine, or any
Other narcotic.
A Mother's Gratitude.
I would likee to express my gratitude to you
for the benefit I have
received from your
wonderful medicine,
' Favorite Prescrip
tion,' writes Mrs.
H. C. Anderson, ol
South Britain, New
Haven Co., Conn.,
(Box st). "During
the first month of
expectancy I could
Dot keep anything
oa my stomaeh. Was
so sick that I had to
po to bed and stav
tor week. I tried different doctors, but with
little benefit. I read about many being helped
by asing your medicine, so I thought I woukl
give it a trial. I began to take your ' Favorite
Prescription ' in November and I had a nice
little girl baby in February following. My baby
weighed over eight pounds. I was only sick
about one hour, aud got along nicely afterward;
was up and dressed on the eighth day. I never
had the doctor with me at all; just the nurse and
one or two friends. My friends thought that I
was sick a very short time. I think Dr. Pierce'
Favorite Prescription is Indeed a true ' mother'
friend,' for it helped me wonderfully. This
makes my second child; with the first one I did
not take ' Favorite Prescription.' The little one
lived just about two months and she was sick all
the time. This last baby is as plump and
healthy a any mother couli wish.

Outsule. of a few minor mmliaps, owing
to inexperience in navigating such a
swift stream of rapids and shoals, it lias
been good tailing for the socialistic
yacht. It is not such a lomesome trip
as 1 had anticipated, as I have plenty
of company of jollv good hearten nay
speds. But the democrats who are
following ud with their ill-constructed
raft, and who have compelled us to take
the lead, notwithstanding the fact that
they should be used to the danger
marks, seem to be semewhBt down in
the mouth.
Their oi l decaying, out of date raft,
that was constructed by planks donated
by our great, gread grand fathers,
seems ss though it will capsize at any
moment; as it seems to strike nearly
every obstruction in the stream. Many
on board fear that they can never bring
the old worn out raft safely home with
out a thorough overhauling, and are
known to be planning a scheme to steal
a few planks from the socialists yacht
with which to mend the old Donkev, as
some call the democratic boat; and thus
p.olong its life for a short period ; while
others are throwiog themselves over
board and swimvning to the socialist
boat. We expect to get their whole
crew before we return. A committee
came to ns the other day and said that
they believed in co-operation and
wanted us to go in with them and use
the material in our boat in fixing up
their's. But remembering the parable
spoken by the greatest socialist that
ever visited the earth, of putting new
wine into old bottela and of mending an
old garment with a piece ot new cloth
and having fresh in our memory the
total destruction of the populist man
of-war. we politely shook our beads
We find the salt water somewhat nau
seating to drink but tbe democrats say
it is not so bad when yon get use to it
Karl Marx first conceived tbe idea of
building this wonderful yacht of ours
He built it and gave it to the world as a
great life boat. Although as yet it has
been compelled to float principally on
salty streams it has been busy throwing
out life lines and drawing on board
multitudes of disparing mankind, and
tbe time is not far distant when it will
sail on tbe great treeh water river
lite and disembark its great load
of
of
bonded and oppressed mankind on the
shores of tbe promised land. Then and
not nntil then will tbe mission of this
wonderful life boat be performed.
It is of my opinion that the candidate
who publicly made the statement that
he bad no opponent, got a good bint of
tbe time when in tbe near future he will
be compelled to recognize tbe socialist
party as a great factor in the political
field. And I would not be surprised to
see him in tbe near future join tbe on
tiring life saving crew and with well
directed aim fling his socialistic life line
on board the slowly sinking G. O P
craft and have to draw on board a few of
tbe once stand-patters. Of coarse there
will be many who will stay with the old
boat nntil she goes down, because the!
fathers betore them lived and died
there.
If yon wish to know tbe composition
of this lifeboat and are dissatisfied with
tbe capitalistic system, procure and
read the socialist propaganda. Sub
scribe tor a socialist paper. Man's
brain wss made capable of expanding
so don't be afraid of wrecking it by
thinking a little.
Ask yourself for what purpose waa
man placed bsre on earth. What is tbe
goal that he toast strive to attain
Surely it cannot be the accumulation of
a few paltry dollars; putting yourself in
a position to be envied by yonr less
fortunate brother. If that is tbe goal of
life, the one thing sought for, it would
have been better that we bad never
been born. The acquisition of wealth is
not the natural goal of life as it appears
to be, which ever way yon may look ;
but the possibility of filling a paupers
grave stimulates our selfish nature to
such an extent for striving for tbe at
mighty dollar that the goal is gold.
Happiness undoubtedly is tbe natural
aim of life, and if we would stop long
enough in our mad rush to take a clear
view of the situation we could see that
happiness could much more easily be
obtained through co-operation in attain
ing tbe means of livelihood where much
time and labor is saved, than when each
one strives individually, tearing down
what another builds; each seeking to
live off the labor of the other; crowding
another down by trying to climb up a
notch higher above the jaws of poverty.
Under a same system tbe means of
livelihood would be tbe least of our
thoughts. While now it is the domin
ant thought. With tbe wolf forever
dispelled from the door, would you be
afraid as some are that you would lose
your ambition? Don't you believe then
that your ideal thought would be tbe
perfection of mankind? Tbe incentve
to harm yonr fellowman would have
vanished. The great evil, the love of
money would be plucked np by the
roots and cast aside, and man's progress
in tbe line of pertection would go by
leapa and bounds until be reached tbe
point of the greatest amount of hap
piness with the least possible resistance.
Tears traly,
A. S. AKERS.
