    Hair Splits
"I have used Ayer's Hair Vigor
for thirty years. It is elegant for
a hair dressing and for keeping the
hair from splitting at the ends."
J. A. Gruenenfelder, Grantfork, 111.
Hair-splitting splits
friendships. If the hair
splitting is done on your
own head, it loses friends
for you, for every hair of
your head is a friend.
Ayer's Hair Vigor in
advance will prevent the
splitting. If the splitting
has begun, it will stop it.

LOW WHEAT YII:M.
Winter raiti Is Turning Out Very
Poor I'.
Chicago, III.. July 26 Crop expert,
W. B. Snow, in his review of crop con
ditions says that accumulating threBh
ing evidence continues to confirm what
has been said before as to disappoint
ment in the rate of wheat yield. Shock
threshing has now made sufficient prog
reas to invest the results to date with
the force of averages and the yields re
ported must be accepted as typifying
the general situotion. In an experience
of more than 20 years to marked a fail
ure of a crop to reach reasonable ex
pectations based on its appearance
when cut has never before been met
with.
Threshing results to date have been
received covering operations of from
one to half dozen machines, from wide
ly scattered districts, and the Bhowing
is significant. In Putnam county, In
iiana, the average to date is nine bush
els; In Illinois, Marion county shows i
five bushels; Clay five to 15; in Iowa
. Hamilton county gives 12 bushels; Clin
ton, seven to 11 ; Marion county, Mis
souri shows eight to 11 bushels.
Portions of Kansas and Nebraska are
failing to make good early promise, but
generally speaking the yields in those
states are satisfactory. It is apparent
that in spite of an increase of more than
r, 000.000 acres in area harvested the
Winter wheat crop will be little if any
larger than last year.
During the week the Spring wheat
crop has not more than held its own, if
that. Rainfall was badly distributed,
heavy in the southern parts of the dis
trict and light or entirelv wanting in the
north. Some damage occurred to the
crop in each district from these opposite
extremes.
In the southern and southwestern
counties ot Minnesota, lowlands were
overflown, wheat badly lodged, and
rust is developing. In the Red River
Vallev counties, on the other hand,
there was no moisture, the ground is
Iry, and a great deal of the late sown
wheat can hardly pay for cutting. Early
fields promise better, but the crop is at
a standstill, and at the best the yield in
this important section will be materially
lielowan average crop.
The week in South Dakota waB gener
ally favorable, and with the exception
of a few northern counties, where the
stand is thin as a result of early drouth,
the state promises a better crop than
last year. Rains of the week in North
l'akota were light, scattered and absent
or wholly insufficient in the heavy cen
ters of production in the Red River
Valley.
In the extreme southern counties of
the valley enough moisture was secured
to benefit the crop, but elsewhere there
was no improvement, if, indeed, there
was not further deterioration.
During the early part of the week the
weather wee cool, modifying the tffect
of deficient moisture, and furnishing
good conditions for the filling of heads.
The week closes, however, with much
higher temperatures prevailing and
with some indications Jthat the hot wave
in the southwest was spreading into the
spring wheat district. A day or two
just now with temperature around 100
degrees would disastrously affect both
quantity and quality cf the coop, as
heads are now filling, and moderate
days and cool nights are requisite for
best results.
Counterfeit Gold.
The gold used in color printing and on
the mirror and pioture frames is not from
the pure gold leaf, but is a composition
of bronze and spelter. It resembles tbe
venuioe so closely that few people fcnow"
the difference." To tell the difference
between tbe genuine Hostetter's Stom
ach Bitters and tbe many imitotions of
fered for it, some of which are put up in
the empty Hostetter bottles, is to ob
serve that the Private Stamp over the
neck is unbroken. Refuse all others if
you value your health. Tbe genuine
has a reoord of fifty years of cures of
ouoh ailments as nausea, dizzioess, flat
ulenoy, headache, heartburn, indigeelion,
dyspepsia, and malaria, fever and ague
back ot it. If yon have never tried it,
do so to-day.

"I dreaded the change of life which
was fast approaching. I noticed Wine
of Cardui, and decided to try a bot
tle. I experienced some relief the
first month, so I kept on taking it for
three months and now I menstruate
with no pain and I shall take it off and
on now until I have passed the climax."
Female weakness, disordered
menses, falling of the womb and
ovarian troubles do not wear off.
They follow a woman to the change
of life. Do not wait but take Wine
of Cardui now and avoid the trou
ble. Wine of Cardui never fails
to benefit a suffering woman of
any age. Wine of Cardui relieved
Mrs. Webb when she was in dan
ger. When you come to the change
of life Mrs. Webb's letter will
mean more to you than it doe3
now. But you may now avoid the
suffering she endured. Druggists

"Miss Tarbell's work Is of unequalled importance as a 'docu

The results of her work are likely to be far reaching; she is writing
unfinished history." Boston O obe.
