Whereas, The Supreme Master of the
universe has in his infinite wisdom and
wise providence, removed by death from
his family circle, our esteemed brother
J. M. Waddell, and thereby a wife and
family is left to mourn the loss of a kind
husband and father, and our lodge de
prived of a worthy brother and sturdy
supporter of Odd Fellowship, therefore
be it
li solved, That the members of Willow
Lodge No. (SO extend their hearfelt
sympathy to the beloved family of our
deceased brother in this hour of their
deep'distress.
Resolved, That the charter be draped
for period of thirty days, that thepe
resolutions be spread on the minutes
of the lodge, and that a copy be sent
to the family and to the local press
for publication. Fraternally submitted

Roadmaster Geo. Thornton came in
Thursday evening after a month's steady
work on Morrow county roads with a
force of five men.
This is Mr. Thornton's first visit to
Heppner since he left here a month ago.
lie started south on the Ileppner
grade and has been gradually getting
nearer the Wheeler county line in work
ing Cason Canyon, the Henry Gay
grade, Clark's canyon, Gooseberry hill,
Jackrabbit canyon, Deadman's hill and
the joskin's gulch. He will finish this
route by improving the stage road to
the Wheeler county line.
The work has consisted principally of
grading, widen::. narrow cuts, leveling
up the rough places and throwing out
the loose rocks which are so annoying
to teamsters.
Mr. Thornton has been doing some
good work and the result of his efforts
will be a decided improvement in Mor
row county.
Work with the big grader has been
suspended in the mountain districts for
the reason that the machine cannot be
operated among rocks and roots.
The machine will not be used very much
until the fall rains set in as the ground
e ery where is now too hard and dry.

alfalfa land has about doubled in value.
The McBee place was purchased a year
ago for $12,000 The Butter creek valley

miles in length with an average width of

fattened on hay grown in this small
territory, not to say anything about a
large number of range cattle and sheep.

Anzella, the trotter, sold at the blue
ribbon sale at Cleveland Tuesday for
$5000. Last season she won $10,600 in
purses, so her owner has received for
her within the year, including the sale
price, $21,600. This is a pretty large
sum of money for a young mare that
was learning to trot on the buncbgrass
tracks of Oregon and Washington thrfe
or four years ago. Anzella was foaled
at Dayton, Wash., in 1895, and had not
local race meetings given her owner a
chance to develop and show her speed,
she would never haye been beard of ex
eept perhaps as a good roadster. There
is money in horses of the Anzella class,
but it is impossible to learn how many
Anzellas there are in the ranks of the
green ones in Oregon and Washington
unless they are given a chance to try
out at a race meeting. Klamath (2:07,V)
was purchased as a green trotter for
$110, but less than three years after he
left Oregon his owner refused $20,000
f r him, and during his racing career he
won over $10,000.
