Several cases of measles are reported
in the city.
Atto'ney S. E. Notson, of Lexington,
was in the city Friday.
E. II. Clark, the wool dealer from
Tendleton, is in the city.
Geo. Perry was in town on Sunday
from his Lone Rock ranch.
S. T. Robinson, of Eight Mile, was
registered at the Palace, Friday.
. Benj. Matthews, of Portland, was reg
istered at the Palace. Saturday.
Geo. W. Turner, of Lexington was
registered at the Palace Monday.
Geo. W. Wells, the coal expert, came
up from Portland, Friday evening.
Miss Ilattie Starret who is teaching
school near Ilardman, epent Sunday in
this city.
The little daughter aged seven years
of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Kinney, is eick
with pneumonia.
Miss Lorena Meadows has returned
from Portland where she has been hav
ing her eyes treated.
Mrs. G. W. Swaggart started Monday
morning for Trenton, Mo., where she
will visit for two or three months.
Prof. J. L. Swavne, a teacher who
recently arrived from the East, has been
engaged to teach the Gooseberry school.
Rev. J. V. Crawford returned from
Waitsburg on last evening's train. Mrs.
Crawford will stay and -visit relatives
for some time.
Rufo Blake came to town Monday
from his home on Rock Creek. He
left for Portland Wednesday morning to
entor business college for the winter.
Mrs. J. J. Adkins and uucle, Mr.
Bruce, who has been visiting in Hepp
ner lor some time, left Wednesday
for Milton and WaiUburg to visit rela
tives. Mayor Frank Gilliam, M. D. Clark,
C. K. Zilla and Frank Roberts returned
Monday evening from Blalock, where
they had been on a goose Mint. They
bagged 62 geese on the trip.
Mrs. C. E. Bader, grandaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Borg of this citv,
left Monday morning for her home in
Portland. Mrs. Bader has been visiting
in Heppner for some time.
Eugene Perrault, night clerk at the
Palace hotel, Safcirday received the sad
news of the sudden death of his father
in Portland. Mr. Perrault left for Port
land, Monday morning.
Genrgp Conner received a telegram
from Mrs. Coneer announcing her ar
rival in Boston. Mrs. Conser is the
jruest of Mrs. P. B. McSworda. Next
week Mrs. Conser, Mrs. McSwords and
daughter Marie will visit New York
City.
Sherman S. Hornor, formerly of
Heppner, and a brother of Ian Horner,
the saddle manufacturer of this city, at
the recent election, was elected treasure
of Ada county, Idaho. Boiso is located
in Ada county and the oflico is an im
portant one.
Postmaster Yanghan informs us that
there is considerable complaint about
the outside door of the postollice lining
iocked at night. This is the ruling from
the postollice depaitmentand, of course,
has to be carried out to the letter.
Postmaster Yaughan should not he
criticized for his actions.

In the matter of awarding the con
tract for furnishing vault of new court
house with steel furniture.
The Art Metal Construction Com
pany having the lowest bid was '. award
ed the contract to furnish the steel fur
niture in the new court house vault for
the sum of $1687.
Petition of J. L. Howard for estab
lishment of a county road not having
the required number of signers was set
aside.
In the matter of application for a
change in county road No. 3S. One of
the viewers having failed to qualify, the
report was rejected. The bill of the
viewers and surveyor was ordered paid

In the matter of chance in county
road No. 38.
The petition of W. P. Dutton et al.
was again taken up for the purpose of
appointing appraisers to view the road
with the suveyor. On account of former
viewers having failed to comply with
the law, following viewers were ap
pointed: F. M. Gentry, W. G. Scott
and Ed Duran, to meet on the 22d day
ot November at 10 o'clock a. m. at the
beginning of the proposed road.
In the matter of appointing a county
physician for one year. Dr. Frank B. j
Kistner was appointed county physician
and to receive salary of $70. !

Road application of Wm. Stauffer was
postponed on account of proper affidavit
of posting having not been filed.
William Ayers was appointed janitor
of the new court house at a salary of $60
per month.
The resignation of J. A. Williams,
county commissioner, was handed in at
this term, which was accepted by the
court. Francis M. Griffin, of lone, was
appointed to fill the vacancy.
The bond of J. N. Beeler, road super
visor of Heppner precinet was accepted
and approved.
