APRIL 2 IS TIE DATE State Republican Convention Will Then Meet. CONVENTIONS IN PORTLAND B4 OUtrlet rBgiwMla, CiTatli Awabln April l-PrlrlM Mirck 'ii -Conor j UoBreotloi u9ifa. Seoond District Cotigrt-isional coo Tention, Portland, April 1, 10 a. m. Rer'Ut'Hfan state convention, Port lann, April 2, 11a. m. Primariei (recomrneoded) March 22. County conventions (recommended) Warch 2!. The Republican State Central Com mittee and Second District Republican Congressional Committee mot Saturday in the Chamber of Commerce building, Portland, and fixed the foregoing dates for the two conventions. Both com mittees declared io favor of a reap portionment of repreentation in the conventions baaed on the average vote for Presidential Electors at the laat Na tional election. Considerable discus sion preceded the adoption of the mo tion io the Htate Central Committee, two amendments being offered. One was to fix the basis on the vote cast for Supreme Judge at the last sUte elec tion, and the other for a continuarce of the present apportionment, which is based on the vote cast for T. T. (Jeer four years a-o. In tli Congressional committee there was no discussion whatever, and the vo'e in favor of the reapi ortionment wan unanimous. Con trary to expectation there was no oppo sition to the plan oi setting the date or ths Congressional convention a day pre vious to that named for the state con vention. Both conventions will beheld in Port land, no other cities aekini; to be desig nated. The btate Central Committee r om mended that the primaries be held March 22, and the county conven tions on March 29. Some of the coun t-y members urged that the date was too near the time set for the state conven tion, and they would not have time to reach I'o'tlard after attending the coun ty convention. It was pointed out that the naming of the dates wiil not be binding, and they were rr.a le because it was customary for the committee to make such recommendation. By mem bers in attendance and proxies near'y the entire strength of both committees was developed, but with the exception of differences of opinion as to the basis for reapportionment there was no clash ing, and the two meetings were harmo nious. By an agreement between the delegates from Union and Baker conn ties one delegate to the convention was taken trom the former and given to the latter county. With the transfer of the Panhandle from Union to Baker, which was effected by aa act passed at the last session of the l4iUtufe, about 329 Republican voters were trantferted to the latter county, which entitled thm to the one delegate transferred.
