The priw iaid $1S per head
delivered at Shaniko Mr. HiD-
tou has also purchased four fine
Shorthorn bulls. He is now one
of the principal eheep owners in
Wasco county, and with this pur
chase of cattle added to those ho
already posesses he will be in the
front ranks as a cattle owner for
this section of Oregon.
It is the intention of the French
Glenn Livestock Company, which
has sach extensive land and cattle
interests in Southeastern Oregon,
to dig a large ditch aijd drain some
65.000 acres of land kuown as the
Blitzen Swamp, in Harney county
F. C. Lusk, the general manager
of the cimpany, who has his head
quarters at Chico, Cal , says the
ditch will be 60 feet wide and nine
feet deep, and will follow the
course of the Donner and Blitzen
river for a distance of some 30
miles. It is expected that the
work will cost the company at
least $50,000; but when dag the
ditch will drain an area 25 miles
long by seven miles wi le, and the
whole of it will be rich grazing and
hay land. It is the intention to
follow the general course of the
river in the construction of the
work, and the estimate is made
that it will take two years to dig
the ditch.

(Imary civilian waits ot life, ifoe
fact is that Mexico has not horses
enoagh in one department of her
business. Uor cattlemen have cot
etough; of high class horses she
has hardly any at all; of truck and
business horses tbe supply is woe
fully inadequate. Her merchants
and hacipndados must have horses.
Then Mexico h very prosper
on. Immense amounts of foreign
capital nre bing poured into her
bank, ruprchantable houses, mines
and fi"I,1s- IIer fiprts are i-
creasirir. Only her luxuries are
imported, and they ar well cov
ered with a high tariff. All her
poorer people need to eat and
wear comes from her own soil, but
with ail her prosperity she needs
tamves.
Therefore another market is
opened to American h Drsebreeders,
and, what is more, market where
the ieM valuable grades of our
horses will be wantd. We can
well afford to part with many of
the horaor) Mexico will buy within
the next few years.
