Eddy Kllis who has been at a Port
land hospital for some time, arrived in
this citv Thursday evening, and is the
guest of Dr. and Mrs. Swinburne. He
is much improved in health.
Mr. Michel), of the lleppner Gazette,
was in the city last Saturday, soliciting
subscriptions for their New Year edition,
which will appear January 1st. The
ork will be done in lleppner and the
magazine will be devoted to Morro
count. Extra copies can be bad.
Messrs. Warnock & Michell are under
taking a big work and should be aided
by every person interested in Morrow

A telephone line is soon to be built
from KcVo r I'uiatilla to Butter creek
at fcloan Bros.' ranch. Ten 'phones on
Butter creek have been subscribed
Asa H. Thomson. O. F. Thomson, K. N.
Stanfie'd. J. B. Savior and Jese Moo-e
raised $(iK) to build the line. It will be
a great accommodation for the Butter
creek community, which is large, and
which does a great deal of busineis with

B. F. Swaggart, the well known Mor
row county stockman, came up from
lleppner. Saturday on a visit to his
family. He was accompanied by hit
brother, tieorge IjwSggart, who is hav
ing manufactured k very successful and
useful invention in the shape of an im
proved monkey wrepch that dispenses
with the inconvenient thumb screw,
and retired about a yrar ago from the
stock business. Sunday the visitors en
joyed a carriags rids over the country
near Weston, accompanied by their
mother and Mrs. B. F. Swaggart. Wes

Morrow Connty Sunday School Asso
ciation, closed Saturday evening after a
very interesting and suecesf il meeting
ef three days.
Wtiile the attendance ai not laige,
much interest was taken and most of
the Sunday schools of the county were
represented, which wlil bring good re
sults in the Sunday school work tf Mor
row county.
The program as pnh'inhed in the

Sunday schools to elect an alternate for

upon each representative and alternate
to be present at the convention.

The lleppner Klectric Light ami Wat
er company is now making arrangements
to soon commence a big lot of improve
ments in the lleppner water system.
A'l dead end pipes will be diecaided,
and what is known ai a circulating sys
tem will be inaugurated.
Tiie work will be commenced right
away. The improvements will cost i n
t lie neighborhood of $W00.
All ol the original mains that were
laid when the system was put in, will be
taki'n up. The old mains will all be
e'eaned and subjected to a test of 200
pounds pressure. The piping standing
the test will be redipped and put into
use aain,
Hiving to the taking out of some of the
mains and extension of tbe system, it
will he necessary to put in a large
amount of new pipe. Last week the
company received a carload of Dew pipe
for this purpose .
The extension of the water system
will necessitate more or less improve
ment of the plant. A condenser will be
put in which will increase the engine
power about '2b per cent.
The company has purchased a tract of
land from James Jones, fronting on Wil
low creek in order to get water to run
the condenser.
The work of putting in pipe from Wil
low creek to the power house is now un
der way.
The company is now figuring on the
proposition of boring a new well to in
crease the water supply.
Manager Pruyn informs the (Jazettk
that w hile the mains are being taken up
hose connections will always he in read
iness to insure fue protection.

curred at the hospital here on Sunday.
I-ast week she was brought here from
Sherman county by lr. Beers and un
derwent a delicate surgical operation.

of Fight Mile.
The fact that five diplomas have been
awarded to individual exhibitor of
