The condition of tall grain is not as
promising as it was last week. In the
Willamette valley it is becoming spotted,
and complaint of fields turning vellow
are more numerous than heretofore.
The grain aphis has again made its ap
pearance in the upper portion of the val
ley, but it has not as yet done much
damage. In Umatilla, Faker and Union
counties fall wheat in low places and
hollows was killed by the frosts of June
4 and a, and some has been cut tor bav
or else plowed under. The crop as a
whole, however, ccntinues promising,
and with favorable weather from now
on will yet piove an average one. Hay
ing has begun, with yields above the
average, both as to quantity and quality .
Gardens are backward and frosts Wed
nesday morning in southern Oiegon in
ju'ed considerable garden truck in Jos
ephine and Jackson counties and also
hurt corn and some fields of alfalfa.
The first cutting of alfalfa has also been
injured by frost in Eastern Oregon, but
the stalk is vigorous and there is no rea
son why the second cutting should not
be up to the usual average.
Reports regarding fruit vary widely.
In some sections the trees have all they
can carry, while there are many or
chards that will not produce sufficient
fruit to ray for its being gathered. In
the Powder River valley all fruit gaffer
d severely, and throughout eastern
Oregon there will be a general shortage
over last year's yields of prunes and ap
ples.

medium grades are wider apart.
The market at present appears to
be a fine wool market, and from
present indications will continue
so for some time to come. The
strictly fine grades are in best de
mand, but this is not extreme
enough just now to force values
up to any extent The lack of
speculative feeling among manu
facturers is noted by dealers, who
say the former are-only buying to
supply present demands. Territory
wools continue to lead the sales.
Fine medium and fine staple is sell
ing at 4U:ff l:'c on the f-coured
basis, while the strictly staple ar
ticle is quoted at 41 in 45c.
