FUND FOR ROAD.
Heppner is the business and banking
center of the great interior to the south
of It, and from here that vast region's
wool is shipped. Here the merchan
dise for that country is taken off the
cars and freighted by wagon for many
miles.
Heppner treats thfs trade fairly and
liberally, and is always willing to
smooth its pathway as much as possible.
Along by Medicine Lodge and Park
er's mill, in the mountain district, the
heavy traffic bad worn out the road.
Heppner business men put a force of
men at work under Marion Rounds, and
they have put the road along there into
good condition by corduroying and
grading.
It has been quite a job, but it is now
done and well done, and the cost has
been about $500.
Heppner business men have not only
subscribed this amount, but also as
much more to expend on the road as
needed hereafter.

WARNING.
Grazing on my land 5 miles south of
Heppner is in violation of common law
and justice. During free trade days it
was all right to swine my good grass, for
sheep were worth nothing. But now it
is different, and it is not fair that 1
should be left in the hole for taxes. Bo
I will be compelled to prosecute anyone
who trespasses upon my land.

WOOL.
There is still no movement in the
Heppner wool market. Frank Lee was
here a few days this week, being the
only buyer who has dropped down for
quite a while. He said be was ready to
buy on a basis of Boston quotations,
but that no wool could be touched here
at those figures.
Heppner growers seem confident that
prices are going to come up, and are
able to bold.
In the Heppner warehouses there is
now stored 2,000,000 pounds of wool,
with i million still on tributary ranch
es. It is good wool, and the finest clip
ever grown here.
The lateBt from Boston is that the
tone of the market is steady ; the anx
iety felt regarding the recent failure of
two wool houses on account of a fear
that the wools held by these dealers
would be forced on the market, was
allayed by the fact that the wools are
to be offered on the market the same
as before. Dealers are viewing the out
look with expectation of better market,
but as yet they can see but little pros
pect of immediate hieber prices.
' Territory wools continue to head the
list of sales.
Australian wools are quiet, and sales
are made at full recent prices.
