, INSPECTING STOCK.
Henry Scherzinger, stock inspector of
Morrow county, brought his sheeo out
of the mountains Friday, and they are
now feasting on tbe good grass of tbe
home range. He has 3000, mostly
lambs, but lost 35 by coyotes in one
night near Hamilton.
Henry will soon start out on bis offi'
cial inspection of all the stock in Mor
row county. .Being a practical pioneer
sheepman, be knows the location 01
every band. He will have some very
long, tiresome rides, but he has a good
tough horse, he knows every acre of
Morrow county, and his inspection will
be very thorough.
BARS.
A grapevine telegram just received
says that a terrific encounter occurred
last evening in tbe mountains at bead
of Dutch Billie krick. where Oscar
Minor and Dave and : Willard Herren
had gone to hunt a bear. It seems that
thv found a br mlvnr-r.in who wan full

of fight, and it took all their skill as ex

career.

SOME ' STORM.
Rather boisterous weather prevaited
in the Heppner Hills during the past
week, and at times brisk breezes blew.
Sunday a south wind brought a flurry
of snow along the timbered edges of
the Western spur, and the foothills
were white as far down as Bill Pen-
land's headquarter ranch on Balm fork.
Along there was tbe skirt of tbe storm,
and there was no snow at Tom McCul
lough's ranch on Willow creek.
Not long did the snow lie on the
open hills, and on Tuesday came a
downpour of rain, giving the ground
abundant moisture.
It knows when to stop raining here,
and on Wednesday the sun shone out
bright and beautiful, sending smiles all
over the green grass on the hills.
