His many old-time friends were very
glad to again greet Felix Johnson, who
is a veteran of the Mexican war and has
lived on Little Butter creek for 35 years.
Wm. Ball has gone to work in the big
store of Minor & Co.
Geo. Copeland is again in town under
the doctor's care.
Ed Hale has moved into his new
house.
C. M. Jones is improving his home.
Harrison Hale is building a new home
on land bought from Geo. Wells, up
Wright canyon.
Geo. Wells has sold an acre to Oscar
Neal, who will build a residence on it.
Bev. F. M. Canfield has arrived and
assumed bis pastorate of the South M.
E. church.
Jas. Hayes is finisting up a new bouse
at his home ranch.
Andy Cook has received and taken
charge of his sheep.
Arthur Minor on Tuesday delivered to
Geo. Vincent and Wm. Watteuburger
200 head of 2 and 3-year-old beef cattle
averaging 1060 pounds.
Oscar Minor returned home Tuesday
his splendid Shorthorns having taken
first premiums at the Westminster fair.
Miss Jennie Noble has bought a fine
Hinze piano from Wells A Co.
J. F. Royse, of Hard man, who at
tended the pioneer reunion, taught
school in Heppner 22 years ago, and was
one of the first to try farming on the ta
ble lands here.
In the window of Tom Howard's store
are 6 Percheron potatoes raised by Har
ry Cummins, one of which weighs 'i
pounds.
Mr. Miller, of Rhea creek, hauled in
a big load of potatoes Tuesday. He
says be can get 6 bits a sack for his
whole crop, and 2 cents tor onions.

Stolen from Thompson's barn on the
night of the Fourth, a silver-mounted

Wheat market was weaker in Europe
and the Kant yesterday, with not enough
doing locally to make much difference
in priors. Exporters were still quoting
55 cents for Walla Walla, hut it required
a fraction above this fiuure to move
very much wheat. Eastern buyers are
reported to have bought consideral
bluestem in the interior, and this has
stiffened the market on this grade
Blightly. Valley continues In the hands
of tl io millers, as they are in a position
to pay better prices that exporters.
