tion is being organized to attack the Philippines. Cape Verde's fleot

fleet and a decisive battle is imminent at any time. The American commanders

sied war between France and Great Britain within a month.
WASHIFQTON, May 14,-The Spanish fleet has been sighted about 100 miles
off tbe coast of Venezuela.
SAN FRANCISCO, May 15. The cruiser Charleston leaves for Manila today
with 300 sailors aud marines to reinforoe Dewey. The City of Pekin sails Thurs
day with 1,000 soldiers and 60C Sons of ammunition.
The Washington volunteers arrived yesterday at Taooma. Two battalions sailed
on lb Umatilla yesterday for San Franoisoo.

Jeok McDonald, who last October beat
a Chinaman named Ah Fong almost unto
a pulp down near Monument, and for
whioh he was indicted by the present
grand jury for an assault with a rook,
ended his existence In his quarters in the
county jail last Monday morning by the
oarbolic aoid route. Hs had just re
lumed from the oourt room where be
was sentenced to two years' imprison
ment for his offense and without flinching
swallowed the contents of a two-ounce

tention of Deputy Sheriff Short, who

A large number of rifles and many thousand rounds of ammuni
tion have been landed in Cuba and these munitions of war, together
with viluable stores, are now safely in the hands of tbe insurgents

WASHINGTON, May 15. It is reported that a member of a plot to
kill General Lee, a man named Gonzales, was arrested in Washington
today. It is definitely known that such a plot is in existence and
enough evidence baa b?en secured to connect Gonzales with it.
