A MERRY CHRISTMAS.
To its readers the Gazette this
morning sends merry Christmas
greetings, and trusts that all will
in some way add a gem to the
childish glee, the youthful mirth
or parental happiness of Christ
mas tide. How beautiful it is to
give one day to the ideal; one day
for generous deeds, for good will
and for gladness. One day to for
get the shadows, the rains and the
storms of life, and to remember the
happiness of youth and health.
One day to forget the briars and
thorns on the winding path, and to
remember the fruits and ilowers of
life, ies, one day to forget your
self and to think lovingly of others.
This day is largely one of myth
ical origin, a product of imagina
tion, as ancient history does not
tell us of the exact date of Chris's
birth, but this does not spoil the
beauty, the joy and the happiness
of the occasion. And in sending
greetings of a merry Christmas to
its readers, the Gazette trusts that,
in this hour of mirth, joy and hap
piness, the poor, friendless or sor
rowful may also be kindly remem
bered. "

Washington, Deo. U. Republicans
have every reason to feel gratified at tbe
outcome of the consultation of senators
and representatives of tbe party, which
have been a feature of the first week of
congress. With tbe exception of the
few eilver bolters the party and both

is to be done iu the near future. With
out a majority in the senate the party is
powerless to force tariff or any other

Bottled Up !
It certainly la disheartening- to a pa
tient to find that the treatment he Is
given for a disease is more disastrous
than the disease itself. - Such ia the
case, however, with the usual treat
ment given for diseases of the blood.
Notwithstanding tbe great progresa
made in many branches of medicine,
the doctors have failed absolutely to
find a successful treatment for blood
poison, and the many diseases having
their origin in the blood. They give
but one kind of medicine, they know
but one treatment, and whether in
the form of powder, pill or liquid, the
doctor's prescription is always the
same potash or mercury.
Too much cannot be said of the harm
ful and disastrous effectsof these drugs.
Ihe doctors are unable to rid the sys
tem of the poison, and direct their
efforts toward covering up the symp
toms from view. There is but one ef
fect to be obtained from potash and
mercury they bottle up the poison
and dry it up in the system, but it
must be remembered that they dry up
the marrow in the bones at the same
time, gradually consuming the vital
ity. Those disfiguring copper-colored
splotches are but indications of worse
results to follow. No sooner has the
system taken on the full effects of this
powerful drug than that suppleness
and elasticity of the joints gives way
to a stiffness, followed by the racking
pains of rheumatism. Tbe form grad-
potash!
Tbe maintenance of its strength snd
freshness under sit ohmatic oonditijns is
evidence that tbe Royal Powder is mors
accurately made snd composed of purer
and belter ingredients. Such s powder
only will give uniform results in perfect
foods snd prove of the greatest eoonomy
in tbe saving of fl mr, butter and other
articles used in their production.

With tbe close of the Presidential campaign TUE TRIBUNE
recognizes tbe fact that the American people are now anxious, to trifs
their time to home and business interests. To meet this condition
politics will bare far less space and prominence, nntil another State or
National occasion demands a renewal of the fight for the principle for
which THE TRIBUNE has labored from its inception to th preeent
day, and won its greatest victories.
E?erj possible effort will be put forth, and monej freelj spent,
to make THE WEEKLY TRIBUNE pre-eminently a
