A vote for Jnyne (or prosecuting attorney is a vote for a ronu who is one of the best lawyers in the district. Did you hear Gowan? if you didn't you misaed a treat. Tub Omul) a platform insists on the retiring of all (onus of metal money in three years and that paper shall lake its place. This is the so-called free coinage party. The populist party is a "fiat' money party. They seem to iguore every oonomio law known to the civilized world. Ma. E. B. DiFDH puts it a little strong in the Condon Globe. It sound very much like Mr, Dufur talkiug, and if ws mistake not it onuie from bis hands. Mr. Jayns lias good honest supporters to talk tor him. "Self praise is half scandal." Wbat citizen of Heppner begrudges tbe money spent in educating our young people? Those who were preseut at the graduating exercises last Friday renins were surely impressed with tbe grand work that is being done in the Ueppner schools, and particularly the high school department. This Bote of warnlug from the Aatorian should be heeded by every republican in the state: "It is, of course, highly im probab'a that any intelligent democrat elected to tbe legislature would be so false to lbs interests of tbe state, or indiffersnt to the sentiment of tbs best element in his party, as to lend bie oouuteDBnoe or (five his vote to the election of a populist to the United States senate. The people ehonld bear in mind, however, that democrats have violated just snob trusts before, and the risks Dow involved are too great to justify any risk of that kind. The only safe course is to paraphrase a famouB order of the immortal Washington at a certain crisis in continental affaire, put none but republicans on guard." In the last Issue of tbe Reoord, some person under tbe nom de plume of "Old Soldier" indulges in a series of dis jointed ravings about our worthy candi date for representative, Mr. Boothby. In the first place a true soldier never wrote that article. It is too dirty, too unpatri otic, too full of lies to emanate from a soldier. In tbe Gazette's opinion it was written by a populist who was formerly an aotive democrat in this oounty. This ia a soaly pieoe of busioees and ooward ly as well. A man who seeks to injure another under a nom deplume is so low in principle that a flea-bitten coyote wouldn't associate with him. And when be takes tbe patriotic name of "soldier" to bide bis true name and character it even becomes more despicable in the eyes of the people. Jos Waldhop, the populist orator who addressed a few of our citizens at the oourt bouse Tuesday night, among other mis-Btatemeuts, said that Congressman Ellis bud voted for tbe repeal of the Sherman net. Anyone who will take the pains to look into the Congressional Record will disoover that neither he nor his oolleague HermanD voted as WbI drop cluims. A man may falsify and be may be honestly mistaken, but when he rises to address an audience some of whom he may never see again to rectify his error, he should not handle the truth so carelessly. Tbe Dalles Chron icle. Joe has also forgot to note the faot that Ellis voted for Bland's 16 to 1 ubslitute for the seignorage bill. Yes, Boothby did strike a man with a cleaver for calling him a "d n s n of b h" for tbe orime of being an Union man. This much injured man was not content with being disloyal, but sought to abuse and threaten Mr. Boothby. Yes, Mr, Boothby did go into the army and fight for the preservation of the Union, while the other remainod at home a member of tbe Knights of tbe Golden (Jirole. Many a disloyal coward who had not tbe courage of his con victions and who did not risk his hide ou the tk'ki or Dame, receiveu worse than a blow from a cleaver. Tbey were returning home from a politioal convention lately held in Eastern Oregon, and naturally the con versation turned on the subject of money, says an exchange. Tbe chief speaker was a gentleman of populist proclivities who insisted that money need not possess any intrinsio value. AH that was needed was the government stamp. The government could put its Btamp upon a piece of leather and make a dollar. "Tbe h 1 it could,' said one of the listeners. "Suppose tbe government took you to the corral where they brand tbe government mules and dapped tbe brand on you, would that make yon a government mule?'' Almost Beyond the Hope of Kecovery A Loving Father's Gratitude. (from the Kansas City, Mo., Journal.) Perhaps no disease with whiob a young person can be afflicted is so terrible and blighting in its nature as a neryous disorder, which gradually saps tbe trengtb of its victim and haunts him or her day and sight. This was tbe melancholy prospect wbioh confronted Mr. L. L. Barbor's young daughter, of Edgerton, Kan., and tbe gratitude of bis parents when a omplete and lasting on re was brought about may be imagined. Learning of tbe case, for it is one which has oreated a great deal of interest throughout the oounty, a journal reporter sought Mr. Barbor to get the full particulars in tbe belief that muoh good could be done other sufferers by the publication of the facts of the case. The reporter found Mr. Barbor in bis shop busily engaged on a pieoe of work. Heat once narrated briefly tbe particulars of the cure which had been effected in the case of his daughter. Tbe facts are set forth in tbe following affidavit wbioh Mr. Barbor voluntarily and cheerfully made: I. L. Barbor being duly sworn, on oath deeposes and says: During the spring of the current year, 1893, my daughter Bertie, aged 13 years, became afflicted with a nervous disease wbicb grew upon her to such on extent that it seriously interfered witb her studies, and aroused the gravest fears that it would develop into St. Vitus dance. My daughter became so nervous that she would drop her knife and fork while eating, and would at times be seized witb nervous twitcbings wbicb excited the alarm of myself and wife. About this lime my wife read in a news paper of a wonderful cure of tbe same disease effected by Dr. Williams' Pirk Pills for pale people, so strongly was I impressed witb the faots set forth in tbe testimonial that I wrote to asoertain tbe authenticity of the case. Reoeiving a reply which completely satisfied me, I sent for a box of pills. From tbe very first dose a marked im provements in my daughter's condition was noticed. She bad become thin and excessively pale, as is common to suffer ers from nervous diseases, and ber weight bad decreased to an alarming extent. After a oareful, and thorough triul of the pills, she not only began to grow lees nervous but also began to gain flesh. It ia needless to sny that I was both surprised and delighted with the wonderful change brought about by tbe first box of tbe pills. She is a new girl, and all the symptoms of her disease have disappeared. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills have oertainly wrought a wonder ful and complete oure, and 1 can say nothing too good in their favor. But now she is away on a visit, something she would not have thought of being able to do three months ago. From being shrinking, morbid and timid she has become a strong, healthy girl witb no appearanoe of ever having been alllioted with any nervous troubles. Tbe pills have done wonders, and I take great pleasure in recommending the pills to all who are atllicted with a similar disease. (Signed) L. L. Bakbob. suosarioea and sworn to before me this 14th. day of August, 1893. heal W. H. Kelley, Notary Public.
