Of course many of the Heppner people have lived "in the valley," and they know. We have jUBt purchased six cordH of wond, paying for the lot 814. I find the people of South Salem kind. They gave us a grand public roouptiou und a public supper. I do not think iu the sums length of time we ever ate so much fruit, and the members bave junt curried it to us free. The sentiment of our bean, is "Esto I'er 2etno". Oue brother bus just bronnht us a sack of mnshroons and bas told my wife how to cook them, but I bave been reading how that a whole fnmi1 in New York bud been poisoned with them, and huvo suggested to her that she first feed some of them to the cat nnd if it does not die we will try them. Credentials of delegates and certificates of past cbanoellors having been passed upon, the brothren were given the Grand Lodge degree, at the close of whiob reoess was declared till 9 o'clook Wednesday morning. The Pythian ball opened at 8 o'clook witu the graud marob, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The musio was furnished by the oroh stra from the Heppner band. The election of officers ooourred Wednesday. It all paesed off pleasantly and defeated candidates took their ill luck with Knightly grace. The success ful candidutes were as follows: Q. 0., J. A. Sharon was chosen as trustee. Thursday was devoted entirely to legis lation, tbe adoption ut a uew constitution being the most important event of the day. The Past Grand Chancellors bad a narrow shave. At present tbjy are entitled to all tbe privileges of a representative aud reotivo transporta tion aud per diem, a lifetime position. The two-thirds majority for their rejec tion was not forthcoming and they re main the same as ever. The arguments for nnd against were numerous.. Portland was oliosen as the place of meeting for next year. The proposition to place Past Grand Vice Cbanoellors in the same unviable position as the Past (jruud Cbuncttllors was "saowed uuder". The term "Past'' iu connection with a V. G. 0. who bus served one term is a misnomer, being so declared by tbe Graud Lidge, as it would create a uew ollioe. The proper term fur tbe officer who has held thut position ia "ex Graud Vice Chuuoollor." i'he reHolutiuu was doubtless introduced more in jest thau otherwise by opponents of tbe Punt Grand Chancellors. FOR INVENTIONS. u. .'ixlyJ.l'jJ interest of t''se having claim against the government t that of INVENTORS, who often lose the benefit of valuable inventions becanm of the incompetency or inattention of the attorneys employed to obtain theii patents. Too much care cannot be exercised in employing competent and reli able solicitors to procure patents, for the value of a patent depends greatly, if entirely, upon the care and skill of the attorney. With the view of protecting inventors from worthless or careless attorneys and of seeing that inventions are well protected by valid patents, we have re tamed counsel expert in patent practice, and therefore are prepared to Obtain Patents in the United States and all Foreign Countries, Conduct l terferences, Make Special Examinations, Prosecute Rejected Cases, Register Trade-Marks and Copyrights, Render Opinions as to Scope and Validity of Patents, Prosecute and Defend Infringement Suits, Etc., Etc. ..Jf 'a have an invention on hand send a sketch or photograph thereof, to. gether with a brief description of the important features, and you will be at one; S5w. . ! est course tc Pu"e- Models are seldom necessary, t Ztulll i? ,,nf"u?,mg on yur ngtMs. or if you are charged with infringementl) matter maUer t0 Ut forareliable OPINION before acting on tH gib p !TaTTlu1nEDTPuRESS CLAIMS COMPANY. n . 618 F STREET, NORTHWEST, WASHINGTON, p. o. box 463 J0HN VVEDDERBURN, Managing Attorney. 9Jt Cut this Out anH c.nfi I ...uu i Notice of Intention. r AND OFFICE AT THE DALLES, OREGON .. .V" ,M''i' No,ke 1" hereby given that lfil settler has tiled noti", of his intention to make hnal proof in support o h.rVj'w 'm'" that,'.'"d ''ro',f 1,1,1 ' " " hel OAT- C'erk " Ht'PP""' SEU Sec. ti T. 4 S.
