Dear Country, the star of (lie valiant and free!
Thy exiles afur are dreaming of thee.
No fields of the Earth so euchnntliigly shine,
No air breathes sucn Incense, suoh mimic as

Humanity's home! thy sheltering breast
Gives welcome and room tostranger's oppreHs'd.
Pale children of Hunger anil Hatred and Wrong
Kind life in thy freedom and joy In thy song.
The fairest estate the lowly may hold,
Thy poor may grow great, thy feeble grow bold,
For worth is the watchword to noble degree,
And manhood is mighty where manhood Is free
O union of States and union of souls!
Thy promise awaits, thy future unfolds.
And earth from her twilight Is hailing the sun

(JOOU ENTERTAINMENT AT ' HAHDMAN
Editob Gazette :
This little village seems to be dull, but
when I was looking around towu I no
ticed a show bill banging in window;
I st'Pped to read it aud it seomed to be
my kiud of nn entertainment. It was
beaded ' P. &. R. Entertainment, Stere
optic Scenes and Sleight of-band Per
formances." So I concluded to go as it
was coming off that evening in the Odd
fellows' hall. When I went I found the
hall crowded to its utmost, and trie en
tertainment was also tine, tbe people be
ing well pleased with Prof. Patterson
and Prof. Richardson's conduct, I would
judge from tbe number iu attendance
that the hills are full ot people in this
part ot Oregon.
Yours Respectfully,
