I Good Service Counts A two passenger automobile, that cost $2500 two years ago, ! and is in good condition, has lots I of room for marketing produce, and just the thing for a farmer, that I will trade for acreage, un improved; location and price cuts no figure. This is a chance in a life time for you to get the long wished for auto, for a small part of your farm, and no cash is re quired. This is worth investi gating. F. C. Meyer, Dallas, Oregon. in G roceries as w ell as a n y th in g else We have the Clerks and the Goods A Court Warning. The verdict in a damage case at Dallas is of deadly inter est to sawmill owners. It is an award of $4000 against the Sher idan Lumber company and in fa vor of the owner of a timber claim, the trees on which were destroyed by fire in 1910. The plaintiff alleged that the fire was the result of careless ness in the handling of a donkey engine with which the lumber company was logging. The spark arrester from the engine was put in evidence by the plain tiff, and was shown to be defec tive. There was conflicting testi mony, but by its verdict the jury evidently believed the plaintiff’s witnesses and brought in an award of $4000 of the $5000 sued for. A decision by the Oregon supreme court, which affirmed an award of damages against a threshing outfit for the burning of grain in an adjoining field, figured in the case, and is basis for belief that the Dallas verdict will stand. There can be no more impres- s:ve warning to loggers and saw mill men. The Dallas case lays new responsibilities on them re specting use of donkey engines in the woods. It is an equal warning to ail others whose care lessness is in any way contribu tory to forest fires.—Oregon Journal. In Use For Over Thirty Years JLx.Sama * S S ifr- ----------— A serious runaway occured in Independence Friday morning on Monmouth street. While Claud South was loading his wagon with lu;-iber ¡it the Spaulding Logging company’s yard a pile of lumber toppled over, scaring! the team. They made a run, fast and furious, out of the yard into Monmouth street and turned in to the alley just beyond the city hall. Here they came in contact with a buggy which was stand ing there and tore off a wheel and considerably damaging the vehicle. They dragged their driver and another man by the name of Morgan several rods and were brought up standing at a tele phone pole in the alley back of Craven & Moore’s store.—States man. { Bears the Signature of Promotes DigeslionThmfW ness and RestXonlains neittwr 0 pumi .Morphine nor Mineral. 8:00 p. m.
