The Spaulding people keep a large crew constantly at work, they logging their own timber for shipment to their mill at Newberg. Mr. Mose Manson has been made road master of the S. F. C. & W. railroad, and is kept pretty busy installing the many im- provments constantly b e i n g made. Mr. Manson is a practi cal railroad man, having had many years of experience in that line and having filled a number of important positions cn eastern roads in this same capacity. He has entire charge of all work pertaining to the road-bed of the entire system. Lately, with the exception of about one mile yet uncompleted, the entire roadway between here and Fall City has been relaid with 60-pound steel rails, in place of the old 55-pound iron ones, which have been taken up for use on the spurs. This is an innovation much enjoyed by the passenger trafic, and is sim ply a continuation of the policy of the company to as fast as pos sible have a first class and thor oughly equipped road from Salem to the sea.
